[ No she doesn't mind. She even eats more. ]

I... know. I came up short this week.

The rankings are without merit. However, you will assuredly be targeted. Your card reveals no abilities to create risk.

[He says this all pretty casually, as though he's not aware this is a depressing thing to say.]

[ Assuredly...

Maybe he's right. She doesn't have any special powers. Not really. ]

It's true. I... I can protect myself, but only with weaponry.

Heh. You are fortunate, however. The Dark Gods have chosen to show mercy and spare your life. The Queen of Bloodstained Ascension shall be the sacrifice.

S...sacrifice?! Oh, no!

[godwhisperer]

She will not be harmed!

[Actually seems to notice he's saying something creepy for once. Hamster injury is no joking matter.]

She merely consents to remain with you so as to sense the approach of villains. For one of the Dark Gods to inconvenience themselves so to interfere in the affairs of mortals...it is a rare occurrence indeed, you see.

[ Gundam and self-awareness... amazing... ]

[ ...after a moment, she seems to understand. ]

...Thank you.

[Immediately flustered that she saw through his cunning 'dark god sacrifice' ploy.]

It...it was Sun-D's decision, I could not force her to remain with a mortal she did not acknowledge even if I wished to.

[teenspirit]

Then I thank her, too.

[ Leaning in towards him...... ] But I shall award you equal credit, and you mustn't dispute it, as it is my birthday.

[godwhisperer]

[Ahhhhhh. Getting more embarrassed and awkward. Not moving away from her exactly, just not really doing anything at all.]

I suppose I am forbidden...

Well, it is merely that I could not allow...

Could not allow what?

[ She stays right where she is. FIRST WE GOT TO CREATE DE MOOD ]

[godwhisperer]

[This boy probably needs even greater help than singing sealife.]

As...as we made a pact, I would be remiss not to prevent...

[ C...can you feel the love tonight... ]

You're... very sweet, you know.

[Okay, burying his face in the scarf by this point. He really doesn't know how to respond to that, it's not something people say to him.]

You are mistaken.

[teenspirit]

[ Oh no... Cute...

She grasps one of the tails of his scarf and gives it a tiny tug. ]

All the time... I'm always worried about being treated differently... Something about other people changes when they learn that you are highborn. But you've never even brought that up, or made me feel like someone who needs to be led around...

You're just you, and I get to be just me.

I really appreciate that.

[godwhisperer]

[That's enough honesty to sort of jolt him out of being too embarrassed to respond. It's one thing to be flattered, but it's quite another thing to be told something like this - that she enjoys his company, that he does the right things to put her at ease, that it's a good thing that he only acts like himself. All of that is how he would like relationships with human beings to be, but somehow they never are. So he relaxes from hiding in his scarf a little bit, and looks serious, although he still has difficulty choosing his words.]

Pretense...human beings have an unfortunate proclivity towards it. I cannot say I have never been guilty, but it is...I have often wished it would be more like...

[But he's rambling again a little bit, so he lets the thought trail off, and clears his throat.]

I am pleased it is so. Thank you for your words, or, I suppose...

[ She had not expected much of a reply, and was ready to let go and give him his personal space again, knowing not to push things too far, even if she's got a determined goal in mind now.

But the fact that he elaborates puts a smile on her face. ]

--you suppose-? [ She tries to prompt him to finish his thought. ]

[godwhisperer]

Not the words, but the thoughts, you see.

[The personal space violation isn't bothering him so much, although he doesn't seem to be reciprocating in any way, since he is a boy who needs more help than singing Disney animals can provide.]

Words are meaningless in the end, but when they aren't, it is because the sentiment behind them is...worthy. That you would think so, I appreciate.

[teenspirit]

[ She seems touched by his words, brightening visibly. ]

I understand.

[ There's a pause then, and her gaze drops. Should she go for it? She remembers how three weeks ago he had reacted quite negatively when she'd tried to shake hands as an introduction...

Then again, Sonia's always been very direct and bold, having grown up with a sense of always being encouraged to go for the things she wants. So she does ask. ]

Can I hold your hand?

[godwhisperer]

Ah...

[He hesitates, looking at his hand cautiously.]

You see, in some ways, that would be dangerous. But it would be possible, I think. If that is what you would like.

[teenspirit]

It would be. I think I could endure it.

[ She reaches her hand out slowly, just in case he changes his mind. ]

[godwhisperer]

Hmph. Perhaps so.

[He's very cautious about it; he lets her take his hand, the unbandaged one, and he himself moves very slowly and returns the grip either gently or timidly.]

[teenspirit]

[ No signs of poison. Actually, it's just kind of... nice. She clasps his hand in hers, not very tightly, though the temptation is there.

After a moment, she starts laughing softly- quiet, somehow relieved laughter. ]

Ahaha... haha...

[godwhisperer]

[He'll sit and hold her hand back. He's intensely awkward at first, clearly battling some kind of internal struggle, but when she starts to laugh, he'll laugh as well.]

Ahaha! Ahaha! Well done.
