[At 7 PM, the grandfather clock tolls once again, the doors to the smoking room shut, and the doors to the drawing room open. Unlike most days, you will not be shepherded anywhere and will be free to wander the mansion, but the drawing room, smoking room, and library will be locked shut until the next morning.
Dinner will be served in the dining room, and as is true every night, everyone will be expected to come eat for two hours. At 9 PM, you are free to go wherever you like, but there is champagne set out in the bar.
Feel free to thread out any evening interactions beneath this comment.]
[After dinner, Marlow will go get a drink in the bar. She may be underaged, but she's also in a murder mansion, so she's not going to worry about getting caught. She'll try a little of the champagne.]
Cool, I'll do all the worrying for the both of us then. Because right now it kinda seems like our best option is just way too obvious, you know?
But hopefully the vault will have a giant sign that says THIS PERSON IS DEFINITELY THE MASTERMIND. And hopefully getting in there won't involve me having to try hundreds and hundreds of keys again.
Most of the time I'm not getting the feeling that the case is rigged against us though.
I mean, the mastermind obviously got that gun from somewhere, and that somewhere's somewhere we've never had access to. The gun's not listed on anyone's cards either. Who's to say what else they're hiding? The other murders could all be solved by the info we had beforehand, but this time...it's like we're playing poker blindfolded and the other guy has an ace up their sleeve.
The rules say the Mastermind doesn't have access to anywhere we don't have access to. But I'm sure they can find places to hide things we wouldn't think of.
[ Finally, a trial dinner where nobody is down and dreary for once. It's actually nice to be able to sit through a few drinks without being stifled by other people's misery. Though she's discussing the investigation, she seems very pleased. ]
I still think searching around the manor has merit. We have enough mathematicians here to crack the safe's code, so we should expend other resources on looking for any places that may have an interest to us that will lead us closer to the Mastermind.
If anyone would like to join me tomorrow... [ She delicately holds the stem of her glass between her thumb and two fingers. ] ...you're more than welcome to.
I suppose the allure of proper timing no longer has any meaning when we're the only ones left and there's no one to stop us from investigating. [ She shrugs, finishes the rest of her drink, and places the glass on the table. Rapture stands up, ready for action. ]
When there's a two day deadline before we're all killed, any time we discover something is the proper time. I'd like to keep what remaining black hairs I have, thank you.
[Susan will stand as well, having finished her dinner.]
If we do mess this up, I hope their ratings plummet and they never have an audience for a show again. ...Unless they enjoy that sort of thing; bad endings.
Let's find the money before we consider that. [ She smirks, then turns her attention to the door. ] Maybe they used it another time, like with Spain's ordeal. If we can open it there might be... something. Some sort of sign that the Mastermind follows some kind of path at least.
...Oh. The trillion dollars or whatever grotesque sum it was? Do you honestly believe they have sacks of gold sitting around the manor for us to plunder when we finish?
[Susan will watch and expect that nothing will happen, really.]

Not bad.

Kinda sends the wrong message drinking champagne when people are dead, doesn't it?
Pass me the bottle.

[She passes it to him.]

Oh man, that didn't even hit me until you mentioned it. Great, now I need something stronger.

...I'm not really worried. I think we'll find the Mastermind.

Maybe the gun was from the vault.

But...if it's a TV show, I don't think they can cheat so blatantly, can they? We just have to watch closely.

It's not like there's much else to do now anyway.

They gave us an extra day probably because they figure we wouldn't mess this up. I have no doubt we'll catch the Mastermind in time.

I'd like to get back to my actual job though which means there's no way we're going to lose this.

[Fire was the solution to everything.]
Here we are, then. ...It certainly doesn't look much like it's been tampered with since I sat around trying keys.

[ She attempts to open it. ]

Perhaps it's just a stairway they didn't finish building when they were designing this house.

So it's useless, great.
