[After dinner, Marlow will go get a drink in the bar. She may be underaged, but she's also in a murder mansion, so she's not going to worry about getting caught. She'll try a little of the champagne.]

Not bad.

[humanic]

[He raises an eyebrow.]

Kinda sends the wrong message drinking champagne when people are dead, doesn't it?

Pass me the bottle.

I figure if there's a good chance we're all getting executed in two days, I might as well try it.

[She passes it to him.]

[He makes a horrified face.]

Oh man, that didn't even hit me until you mentioned it. Great, now I need something stronger.

...I'm not really worried. I think we'll find the Mastermind.

[humanic]

Cool, I'll do all the worrying for the both of us then. Because right now it kinda seems like our best option is just way too obvious, you know?

But hopefully the vault will have a giant sign that says THIS PERSON IS DEFINITELY THE MASTERMIND. And hopefully getting in there won't involve me having to try hundreds and hundreds of keys again.

I agree, it's probably too obvious. But we've figured things out in the end, most of the time. I think we can do this, too.

[humanic]

Most of the time I'm not getting the feeling that the case is rigged against us though.

I mean, the mastermind obviously got that gun from somewhere, and that somewhere's somewhere we've never had access to. The gun's not listed on anyone's cards either. Who's to say what else they're hiding? The other murders could all be solved by the info we had beforehand, but this time...it's like we're playing poker blindfolded and the other guy has an ace up their sleeve.

The rules say the Mastermind doesn't have access to anywhere we don't have access to. But I'm sure they can find places to hide things we wouldn't think of.

Maybe the gun was from the vault.

[humanic]

I hope not. I can't say I'll be having much trust in any evidence that comes from a mysterious vault the mastermind had access to all along.

[obsideo]

Yeah, you're right. That would be worrisome.

But...if it's a TV show, I don't think they can cheat so blatantly, can they? We just have to watch closely.

[humanic]

You know most reality shows are totally rigged, right?

[obsideo]

Yes, I know. But they can't be that blatant. Plus, no one likes the villain to win. Well, not usually.

[humanic]

I dunno. Based on the popularity rankings lately, I kinda get the feeling they're rooting for the killers. Either that or they really just want to see Spain shirtless again.

[obsideo]

...You're right, something about the way the audience has been looking at things is weird. I'd think the good guys would be on top. Someone like you. But that's just me.

[humanic]

You kidding? I can't even be popular in high school, I never stood a chance in this game. Though I guess you could argue high school's even more cutthroat.

Anyway, I'm not surprised. I think we've already established that everyone goes for the bad boy in the leather jacket with the nice abs.

Aww, come on. I don't think you're so bad! Once you get past the, uh, circumcision thing. It's nice when a guy has varied interests?

[humanic]

[Well, he'd been blushing slightly at the first part, but now he's turning bright red for a completely different reason as his face meets the table.]

Oh good, just when I thought I was about to get through an entire week without anyone bringing that up.

[She laughs.]

I'm just messing with you. It's not really that big of a deal. I'm assuming your interest is purely academic.

[humanic]

Not even that, it was just a late night Wikipedia crawl on too much caffeine and completely blanking on the principles of economics the next day. If I'd known it would come back to haunt me forever, I would have just left the test blank. Or talked about puppies, everybody loves puppies.

[obsideo]

[She laughs again.]

You wrote it on the test? You're a bold man.

More like completely secure in the knowledge that no matter how crazy I got, my teacher would always be infinitely crazier.
