[Susan nods in response, a faint smile coming to her own lips.]
Murderous intent. Only one person involved wanted someone to die - Beat wasn't in control of his faculties and May simply wished to stave him off.
Even if this 'game' disagrees with us in a technical sense... I think all of us would say that the true murderer, regardless of what happened physically, was the one who dosed Beat with the drug.
It matters not if there is a fancy execution, or one with a noose around the neck... Precisely as you say, the moral fault lies with the intent. Actually, it is all the better if we can secure May permanent retirement from this game.
[ She looks the most cheerful she has been since Beat's body was found. ]
...No one would harm her, she would go home, and if the prizes are indeed true at all [which susan privately will still doubt just because], she'll be able to save her clan.
This could very well be the best turn of events possible.
[ Sonia is so enthused by this idea that she grabs Susan's hands impulsively and squeezes them in a show of companionship. ]
Thank you... for not giving up on this case... or on anyone here. I think you may be the most admirable and valiant woman I have ever met. I have learned a lot about being a leader from you.
[Susan will react as if uncertain what to do with the hands at first before simply holding them gently.]
...Not at all, Sonia. I... There's much I have to learn from you as well.
I was a bit... well, dismayed, for lack of a better term, about how fervently you tried to get Gundam to confess the truth yesterday. I suppose I must have known, early on, that what he had seen was the kunai in Beat's throat. To save May, he had made his decision. And... I would not have pressed him further - if that was what he wanted. I would have done the same thing he had done in his situation.
But you were right. Hiding the truth doesn't get us anywhere. If I had chosen to execute him and the facts came out later, it would have been the worst mistake I would have ever made - worse than Ukraine, far worse.
[ Sonia smiles gently- very gently- and for a moment seems to be about to say one thing... before deciding on another. ]
I just... had a feeling. [ The words are light and simple. ] It doesn't do to accept defeat until every possible path has been explored... No matter what, you must persevere. That's how a small, unimportant country like mine managed to prosper for so long... and I think it's how we can leave this place alive.
[ ... ] I did not want to deny him the right to die. But... [ Her voice drops, softly. ] If there was a chance to spare both their lives and render that unnecessary... I wished to accept my own selfishness and take it. I might not be good at anything useful or practical... But I am very good at having absolute faith in others. So, then, let us see where it takes us today.
[ She grasps Susan's hands for a second longer before letting them go carefully. ]
There won't be any mistakes made today. I am sure of it.
Now I suppose we'll have to see about having Lithuania and Poland reconcile. If we're going to be trapped here, we might as well try and get what happiness we can.

Intent and act are all that matters, she says.

[A pause.]
Gundam is terribly lucky to have found you in this place. Perhaps it will be the second good thing that comes out of all of this.
[Susan almost sounds warm. It is perhaps possible to believe, at this moment, that she is only four years older than the teenagers remaining.]

...But... thank you.

[endless teasing makes susan happy of course]

Oh! Right! Well, they act a bit like an old married couple, I am sure they will be back to usual in no time.
