This is from testing his blood, but there's wine stains in the chalice. I'm pretty sure it's usually empty, so it's possible someone filled it with...whatever the hell this stuff is and he drank it. Still have no freaking clue why he'd do something like that, but I'm betting if that's what happened, one of the side-effects is turning you into someone who'd try to kill a kid.
A poison to transform your very being, to inspire bloodlust...quite a thing. A mere hallucinogen could perhaps prompt such a reaction, but there would be no guarantee.
There's also the question of why our killer used this poison. If they could have manipulated Beat somehow where he'd drink something they dosed, why not just use regular poison? I bet there has to be something fast-acting in the poisons they hand out for targeting a deadweight, like cyanide.

What better a way to ensure one is not the target then to have another commit the deed? It was always their intention to have May Chang or Beat kill one another.

For one, not even I knew when Miss May would be at the chapel. I can also attest to not being anywhere near Mr. Beat at all that day, or the day prior. The chapel would not have been settled on had I not believed it to be a safe, secluded location - and perhaps that is what the attacker also believed in targeting Mr. Beat.
...I believe that the attacker had not intended for Miss May to be involved. I do not believe a single suspect this trial would intentionally target a child.
[Susan nods and accepts her statements. Obviously, Kaoru wouldn't be willing to be labeled as having done such a thing.]
