It is far from the worst injury I have ever had. I could have perhaps healed it with my alkahestry but I thought...if I was going to be executed anyway, there wouldn't be much of a point.
Um...it is from a shuriken, if that is what you mean? He had the ability to summon these large ones out of nowhere. I was able to dodge the first two, but the chapel was a small enough area that I could not avoid the third.
They're a fairly common weapon in my country. [She draws the shape with her finger on the ground.] They're shaped like four-pointed stars, with each branch being a blade. They're normally small enough to be used as throwing projectiles, but the ones Beat summoned were larger than any I've ever seen and bright red. I don't think they were even made out of metal.
His card does list a lot of powers, but I never thought he would be the type of person to kill someone with them either. He was incredibly fast as well - if he'd attacked anyone else here, they probably would not have survived.
[May stares up at Annie, surprised, before smiling weakly.]
Thank you. [She hesitates.] And...I am sorry for how I treated you after your trial. I was so angry that you just let Ukraine die for a murder she did not commit, but you were doing it to save your people. When I realized I killed Beat...for a long time, I considered doing the same thing. It might have been only when I saw the suspect list just now that I changed my mind.
I used to think that there could only be right and wrong in these situations...but now I don't know anymore. Is it right to leave my people to die so I can save someone innocent from taking my place? If I want to be a good ruler, shouldn't I do whatever I can to save my clan no matter the sacrifice?
I have found the most stalwart of companions here...and that is why I cannot be glad, though I am grateful I have met them even in this situation. I cannot see any of them executed for my sake.

[She unwraps the bandage to reveal a long gash along the outside of her arm. The wound's mostly clotted by now, but it's obviously fresh.]

What did this shuriken look like?

[A beat. She doesn't say the next thing unkindly.]
This is a knife wound, isn't it?

And still, I'm glad you weren't harmed more than this.

They have your back. Be glad.
