week 0 - day 1

[Saturday begins much like Friday, with no further answers provided, and no means of escape. However, at 3 PM on Saturday, the old grandfather clock in the foyer begins to chime. From the foyer, the ballroom doors stand open, and the room is bright with sunshine. Soft, dreamy music plays from a radio inside.
Inside the ballroom, what seems to be a magnificent party is laid out. There is a buffet table laden with finger foods - vegetables and dips, finger sandwiches, pastries, fruit, and cheeses. Next to the table are glasses filled with wine, champagne, or juice. Most of the room is empty, with room to stand and talk, although towards the windows looking out on the courtyard are six tables with five place settings each, set for a larger meal.
And then there's a seventh table, at the back of the room, on which are thirty small notebooks. Inside, the notebooks appear to be some sort of album, with each page containing a picture of and information about your fellow guests.
After everyone has filed in, the doors shut and lock behind the final guest; the doors to the courtyard close as well. You'll have some time to talk amongst yourself, for it will be another hour of dining before anyone else appears]
This is an open mingle log for the welcome feast. Please tag one another. There will be NPC interaction in the post later in the day.
3pm duh
—Wait, no way.
Clyde looks up from his book to stare at Kaoru with a perplexed expression. He didn't hear what she (he??) said, so he's clearly just trying to... you know... assess the situation... ]
that icon omg
Mr. Thorton?
he makes great faces what can I say
So, uh... These books are somethin', huh? [ smooth ]
that was like literally the sideeyes emote
If I may be so bold, they are a little offensive and very confusing. It would appear I'm not the only one with falsified information - and have you seen? Some of the ages listed in here are hundreds and hundreds of years.
omg it is HAHAHA
[ like your gender ]
And I tell you what, if any of it's true? I've got a lot to reevaluate about the world.
no subject
I sincerely doubt that everything in this notebook is true. Though it does beg the question - why? Judging by a few of the reactions I'd say that at least some of the information is true, but it seems a very uneven distribution. I do not think we were brought here to read mixed fact gossip papers about each other either, so I assume there must be another point to this.
no subject
Who knows? It's just as mysterious as everything else.
[ He rubs a hand through his hair, then chuckles, thinking to address one piece of information in his. ]
I didn't think I'd see that name for a long time, personally. Sorry for givin' you another name, Kaoru. [ oh look the "miss" is dropped HOW STRANGE ]
no subject
You do not need to apologize for it. Giving out a false name is one of the simplest ways to keep oneself from coming to harm, after all, and no one is aware of how dangerous this situation may grow to be. [an understanding nod.]
no subject
Nah, it's nothing that clever. It's just how I distance myself from my folks, since they kind of ruined the family name, so to speak. Without gettin' into a sob story, my pa was a drunk, and my ma was a loose woman, to put it nicely.
[ He shrugs ] Just wanted to distance myself from the name once I left. Couldn't get a job in town because of it, so I decided to just come up with a new one.
no subject
If you would like, I can continue to refer to you by the name that you gave me. I would hate to dredge up bad memories.
no subject
Don't you worry about it. Doesn't bother me none now, since I've been away from 'em for so long. And I'll tell you what, call me Clyde. Just don't worry about the "Barrow" part.
no subject
I do still apologize. Despite the amount of time passed, injuries of that nature are surely difficult for many to heal fully.
no subject
[ He waves his booklet idly ] True or not, there's lots of interestin' stuff in here, so I'll be thinkin' about the present way more than the past.
no subject
Speaking of which, there are a few people I feel I must speak to now. This book does an unkindness to several.
no subject
[ He can see you stepping out of this conversation Kaoru!! And he's a bit disappointed, since he'd been hoping to speak with her (him?) a little more. But he imagines he'll have enough time, so he nods back over his shoulder. ]
Don't let me keep you.
no subject
[a bow, and Kaoru sets off to find those other people yeah...]
