The room you're in is luxurious and comfortable, but there is a musty feeling of disuse and decay in the air. Still, you've provided with new wardrobe perfectly tailored for you, a key ring that will unlock your bedroom door, so surely you're welcome to explore the manor?

THAT IS, the hand that wasn't used to wave Clyde down is holding something close, and as soon as he turns around, Kaoru lets it drop; it's a necklace, with the chain looped securely in such a way that it won't fall. the actual decorative part of the piece is a softly colored pink flower of some sort, which catches the overhead light.]

I'm very sorry to bother you... If you don't mind, could you please help me fasten this?

[ He's not quite sure what he was expecting her to ask, but that clearly wasn't it. He chuckles, giving a sort of helpless shrug as he steps closer to help as asked. His eyes are on the necklace, and he thinks to himself that it looks nice, nice enough to fetch a price. Of course, he hasn't quite decided if it would be worth the trouble to steal from this place, but it's a thief's habit. He holds out his hand to take it. ]

Not at all, miss. I'm surprised you'd ask me, if I'm honest.

[ because he's assuming she's the lady of the house and has servants to do this for her, duh!! but he's also not one to turn down a pretty woman, either...

the necklace has zero actual worth though so he just hands it out and over as soon as Clyde reaches for it.]

Is it? I don't know anyone else here, so... [Kaoru's head dips in a shallow but polite bow, though the sheepish look might be caught before it's obscured.] I apologize for the inconvenience.

You don't? I guess I just assumed you lived here. That'd explain why you'd ask me, though.

[ The last part is more murmured to himself, but he just hums lowly afterwards. Clyde runs his thumb over the charm as he walks behind Kaoru so that he can do as asked! ]

—Hope it's not pryin', but would you have happened to just wake up here this mornin'?

I'm sorry, I don't. [that's accompanied by a head shake. luckily one of the residents from the opposite wing had helped earlier; the hair that had once been all over the place is now neatly placed up into a bun, so it won't get snagged on the necklace chain or clasp. Kaoru remains still regardless, just in case.]

That isn't prying at all, though. It's as you've guessed - I haven't ever seen this place before. All of my possessions were gone when I woke up, as well.

[ He nods with a thoughtful hum, though it takes him a couple tries to get the necklace, since I'm assuming that this is one of those necklaces with a stupidly tiny loop. His less than delicate manhands aren't exactly suited, BUT. A for effort. ]

Not sure if I should be glad that I'm not the only one. I'm not exactly keen on waking up in random places, but hey, misery loves company, I guess.

[ But he doesn't comment on his own possessions being missing. There's only one thing of worth, and that's his gun. It's not exactly something he flaunts, for obvious reasons. Clyde finally gets the necklace and makes a noise of accomplishment, taking a step back. ]

—There, got it. I can't blame ya for havin' difficulty with it.

[good job Clyde... Kaoru reaches up to rearrange the necklace a little once it's secured so that it hangs more comfortably and offers a pleasant smile.]

Thank you for taking the time to help me. [accompanied by a polite bow! because even with his less than delicate manhands, he still managed to get the necklace hooked.]

It seems that there are actually quite a few people in a predicament similar to ours, sir. I believe that all of these rooms may be filled. [and that isn't even counting the other floors whoops]

[ Being as culturally sensitive as you'd expect from a white dude from the 1920s, the bow really throws him off, and he just kind of stares incredulously for a moment, unsure of how to return the gesture. So he just kind of... doesn't... ]

Yeah, it's no problem. Well, the necklace, at least. The rest of that is more of a problem, but...

[ First thing's first. He smiles more genially, motioning vaguely. ] No need to call me "sir," ma'am. Call me Roy. Roy Thorton.

[ He knows his name has some level of notoriety, since he's escaped from prison, but also, considering the situation... He's not sure if he should stick with the story he'd told that small town about being a newspaper reporter or not. He decides to stick with it, just in case this happens to be connected. ]

[A for... no not even an A for effort but here have a gold star sticker. Kaoru seems unperturbed at least, moving on smoothly. no one has to deal with an awkward situation, how good!]

If that is your preference. [and sir roy thorton will even be spared a second bow, though that's Kaoru's first inclination when it comes to introductions.] My name is Kaoru Nagumo. It's a pleasure to meet you, though the circumstances are... certainly not favorable.

[ Well, if the bow didn't throw him off enough, the name certainly does. He raises an eyebrow, and absolutely, terribly butchers Kaoru's name. Have you ever heard a Southerner make an attempt at another language? It's not pretty!! ]

Ka-oru Naguu-mo? That's a, uh... [ He rubs his hand through his hair, since the first word that comes to mind isn't exactly a nice word, which he's aware enough of to realize. Which is sad considering what his idea of politically correct ends up being. ] Oriental name, right? From China or somethin'?

[CLOSE ENOUGH Kaoru's from 1868 there is very little that's politically correct... the horribly butchered attempt at pronunciation isn't even horribly mocked! but there is a definite amused smile, which Kaoru politely covers with a hand.]

From Japan. And you must be from the West, correct? [not even gonna try pinpointing where in the west.....]

[ It's okay, he probably only barely knows where Japan is, honestly... ]

That's right. Born in Joplin, Mississippi, but moved out to Texas once my folks passed.

[ He laughs a bit, definitely looking more interested, though why is apparent once he speaks. ] I've never met someone from outside the states, if it wasn't obvious. Not many immigrants bother travelin' outside the city, and I can't blame 'em, since it's not like there's much work in little towns down South.

[and Kaoru doesn't recognize any of those names... they're both doing so well.]

The smaller towns do seem to suffer from more than just a lower population count. It seems that such a thing is true even across the sea. [a nod, as if reaffirming the idea.] Likewise, I have only met someone from a different shore on one or two occasions.

Well, I'm not exactly the ideal ambassador for the US of A, but it's a pleasure all the same, Miss Kaoru.

[ But! Introductions aside, he motions vaguely, just towards the house in general. ] What do you make of all this?

The same to you, as well. [almost initiations Operation Polite Bow but recalls at the last second that WHOOPS nope it baffled the poor dude the last time it happened, best leave that off...

Kaoru's brow furrows a little at the question, though.] To be perfectly honest, I don't have a single idea as to what may be happening here. I have already run into two others who are confused; it seems as though no one else knows what to make of it, either. It could perhaps be a large-scale kidnapping, but... the accommodations are a little too nice.

That'd be one hell of a kidnapping if that's the case, if you'll pardon my language. [ only for the ladies but little did he know ] And besides that, even when you don't think about the accommodations, personally? If they kidnapped me, they'll be disappointed, since I ain't got a dime to my name.

It's true that I don't come from an affluent family, either... Perhaps we have been gathered for a different reason, in that case. [but that causes a significant amount of worry to leak into Kaoru's voice, since seriously, if it's not a kidnapping what is it.]

[ Clyde is concerned about it too, since he's made plenty of enemies in his life, but at the same time... All of those enemies wouldn't go through something this elaborate. It would be much simpler, just a gunfight where whoever was luckier walked out alive. But that much he doesn't share. ]

I wonder, then. But hopefully we'll run into the owner. Even in a big mansion like this, I can't imagine we'll just avoid him forever.

True enough... [though that only seems to raise more anxiety. Kaoru raises a hand to nervously touch the now secured necklace before turning back to Clyde.]

On that note, I suppose I should see if I can find him - or anyone else, for that matter. It has been a true pleasure getting to speak with you, though.
