[Alice didn't sleep Thursday night and any sleep she did get was a result of her body forcing her eyes closed for only a couple hours at most. Death was nothing new to her. She worked on many murder cases, examined corpses and even saw her father's beaten corpse not long before she was kidnapped and put into that warehouse...followed by being kidnapped a second time and coming here. But the events of yesterday shook her up. Lydia Martin's death more than Bernkastel's, but even what Bernkastel did and how she seemed only disappointed in not getting away with it. She didn't know quite what to make of everything.

Next to her plate of food, practically untouched, is the notebook. It isn't flipped to the notecards of the other people, but to a page full of scratched out lines of things she was writing before she didn't like how they read. She won't make mention of it, but what she's writing is a will. Just in case. But her sight is more trained on the "watch" attached to her left wrist, a very foolish mistake that she can't seem to recognize. She's just glad that she was cured of Radical-6 before she came here...she feels things would be a lot worse if that was still in her system.

[alice'll hear her wingmate approaching, high heels making a distinct sound on the ballroom floor before the red-haired woman comes to put down two cups of tea by the table.]

...I'd offer a drink to clear your head, but you look like you'd be better off back in bed, Alice. Did you sleep at all, last night?

[she'll speak up casually at least, although not without a degree of severity, considering all that's happened of late.]

[She turns to look at Touko and shakes her head slowly.]

Barely. [She eyes the tea and mutters a small "thank you", before carefully moving it by her plate.] I don't know what this person trapping us is trying to play at, but this has gotten out of hand.
aozaki: (◆ go sit down over there)

[personal profile] aozaki 2013-09-30 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
[she gives a small nod before sipping her own. she misses coffee tbh, but she can sacrifice it next to nicely brewed tea.]

It was shaping out to be like this from the start; this is stacked like a castle of cards.

[...]

Do you think the claims are true, though? That our entire situation is supposed to pass off as some sort of reality TV show?

[personal profile] allice 2013-09-30 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm...not sure. We've only been told there's an audience, but who can say that's the truth? And this "audience" may just be the people who brought us here to begin with.

[She picks up her tea cup and sips it a tiny bit, to taste how hot the water is, and puts it down so she can fold her hands on the table.]

There have been reports years ago of rich billionaires who would make games and pay people to play in them, just so they can jeer and laugh at what happens. Only in our case there's no consent.
aozaki: (◇ come see me in my office)

[personal profile] aozaki 2013-09-30 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
There's no way for us to know. I haven't noticed any recording cameras either, although I wouldn't be surprised if they were indestructible, even if we find some.

[looking a little annoyed, she sits down nevertheless, glancing at the notebook alice was pouring over. ... huh, is this

what she thinks it is...]

This court system shouldn't be legal in most places on Earth, anyhow. [raising an eyebrow at that, though.] You'd expect billionaires to buy slaves for their amusement. There were consent, in those reports?

[personal profile] allice 2013-10-02 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes yes. But they were still charged for endangerment of human lives. These games weren't what we'd call "safe" or "legal" by any means. The lack of consent from those involved only added more charges onto it, but it only added years to a sentence.
aozaki: (◇ come see me in my office)

[personal profile] aozaki 2013-10-02 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Sentence means legal court procedures were involved, this is practically a kangaroo court in contrast. You've done studies in that field though, Alice? It's a particular topic to have knowledge in.

Well...I'm sure you took a look at my information card, right? It mentioned I was trained by the United States government for a reason: I work as an agent in the Department of Defense.
aozaki: (◇ woah neato!)

[personal profile] aozaki 2013-10-02 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's way out of my field, aha. [waves hand chuckling sheepishly! herp herp] I can't even begin to imagine the sort of mission you would be trained for, so please forgive my ignorance over the matter. [magi aren't really worldly beings...] Did you had to go over such cases in your career then, if that's not top secret classified information?
allice: sprite ((norm) Who leads a life of danger)

[personal profile] allice 2013-10-03 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but it is. Even letting slip my job is a violation and I really shouldn't say any more than this.

[Especially because of her theory that someone inside the mansion is possibly working for this "Hostess", much like how Zero III was just a stand-in for the real Zero. There's no telling how much they know, so it's better to keep it as quiet as possible.]
aozaki: (◇ cool big sis is accurate)

Guess it can't be helped. I'm happy with the company, at least. They could've brought in people we don't like, although I guess that may be too much too obvious, in terms of motive and incentive.
allice: sprite ((heh) Beware of pretty faces you find)

Heh, yeah. I can name at least one asshole I wouldn't want to see here. He goes around dressing like he's from the circus and acts like he's a tough big man, but I could kick his ass without even trying.

That sounds awfully familiar, Alice. [MAKES A WARPED SMILE but she's justified ok...] A personal case of mine is also fond of sporting an obnoxious red silk top hat, it clashes terribly with his blonde hair. A cockroach and a preacher, I might kill him if he shows just to spare everyone else.

Hah...my idiot had blonde hair as well, right down to the bottom of his neck, and wore an obnoxious top hat to boot. Do you think they might be related?

We went to school together, I'm pretty sure he doesn't have siblings. He's always had his hime cut, but he grew it out to reach his back, apparently. I would also hope no one else in any world would share his stock of genes. He's got delusions of grandeur and too many personality problems to list, if we're going to make a list for comparisons. What are the odds?

[are we going to dip into the morphogenic fields too at this rate]

Delusions of grandeur, terrible fashion sense, a list of personality problems - maybe these two are actually clones of one another.

[What, cloning is A Thing in VLR totally legit.]

[He hesitates, but when he sees her looking at her bracelet, he'll take a seat next to her.]

Look, feel free to tell me to butt out if it's none of my business or anything, but that poison bracelet you've got on there...is there any way to take it off without killing you? We've got a bunch of people here with weird powers and skills, so maybe they can find a way. It just seems like a huge risk and really unfair that you're walking around with a freaking death trap on your wrist.
allice: sprite ((explain) To everyone she meets)

[personal profile] allice 2013-09-30 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[She listens quietly to Stiles without a twitch in her expression, keeping her eyes trained on him, and sighs quietly when he finishes.]

You're telling me. [Her eyes look back down to the bracelet for a moment and then back to him, her gaze conflicted.] If I knew a way to remove it I would get it off already. But it's too risky. The drugs loaded in this bracelet will kill me within minutes if the bracelet is triggered and the only way I was told it can come off is if my heart rate drops to zero. I have no way to prove it, but I trust the threats of the person who put it on me to know they aren't likely to be lying.

...Besides, better it stay on me than it coming off and someone trying to steal it for their own use.
humanic: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] humanic 2013-09-30 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
[He nibbles on a thumb thoughtfully.]

Well, we've got a girl here who can evidently transform objects, so I'd worry about getting it off at all first before thinking about how to dispose of it.

If it's just your heart rate dropping to zero...maybe there's a way we can do that without killing you? If we could start it back up again right after it comes off...
allice: sprite ((hmm) Another chance she takes)

[personal profile] allice 2013-09-30 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. I'd be willing to try it if we knew for sure we could restart my heart, but it'd have to be done fast before I suffer brain damage from lack of oxygen. But if we can't be certain then it'll be safer to leave it on my wrist, as backwards as that may seem. ...I don't exactly want anyone to be punished for trying to help me, or be dead for it.

[personal profile] humanic 2013-09-30 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
...I've actually done it before. Stopped my own heart on purpose, I mean. You're right that it'd be way risky if we don't have a guarantee that you'd come back, especially if it'd count as a murder. [He pauses.] But since there can only be one murder a week, there'd be a time period where it couldn't count as one because of the rules....

May's card says she can heal, and the countries probably picked up first aid if they've really been around for thousands of years. It's something worth thinking about, at least.
allice: sprite ((sass) Odds are she won't live)

[personal profile] allice 2013-09-30 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
My, everyone here has such an interesting life. ...I'll think about it. But I only want to do it if someone can guarantee they can bring me back to life. As long as my heart rate drops to zero for even a few seconds, the bracelet should snap right off.
