Friday Morning - Ballroom at 8am

[Alice didn't sleep Thursday night and any sleep she did get was a result of her body forcing her eyes closed for only a couple hours at most. Death was nothing new to her. She worked on many murder cases, examined corpses and even saw her father's beaten corpse not long before she was kidnapped and put into that warehouse...followed by being kidnapped a second time and coming here. But the events of yesterday shook her up. Lydia Martin's death more than Bernkastel's, but even what Bernkastel did and how she seemed only disappointed in not getting away with it. She didn't know quite what to make of everything.

Next to her plate of food, practically untouched, is the notebook. It isn't flipped to the notecards of the other people, but to a page full of scratched out lines of things she was writing before she didn't like how they read. She won't make mention of it, but what she's writing is a will. Just in case. But her sight is more trained on the "watch" attached to her left wrist, a very foolish mistake that she can't seem to recognize. She's just glad that she was cured of Radical-6 before she came here...she feels things would be a lot worse if that was still in her system.

Susan Sto Helit | Various | Various

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-09-29 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Friday 8:30AM - Ballroom]
[For those who have the appetite to take breakfast or who were simply too entrenched in their habits to think of not eating that morning, Susan will pause halfway through the meal and begin to address those closer to her.]

I think, after yesterday's events, it would be prudent to consider our options for avoiding more... undesirable incidents. Keeping careful track of time leaps to mind, as does the possibility of checking in with one another.

I don't suggest we must be joined at the hip, but I also don't think I need to remind anyone that twenty-eight of us sat oblivious for more than an hour while someone was in dire need of help.

[Saturday 1:00PM - Garden]
[The remainder of Friday passes relatively uneventfully. The calm after the trial is less than restful, though, and Susan finds herself unable to concentrate on much of anything. With Saturday comes slightly renewed vigour; following lunch, Susan sits in the garden with a sheaf of papers and writes with careful precision. Despite her concentration, she keeps an eye out for anyone who cares to approach.]

[Sunday 10:00AM - Kitchen]
[It isn't that she's unsatisfied with the food offered in the house more than it is that she seeks to occupy herself. Susan can be found in the kitchen after breakfast with an assortment of ingredients laid out across the counter tops, a few recovered from the pantry. Surprisingly or not, schoolmistress wields the knife adeptly, cutting vegetables and meat with skilful movements and scooping them into a simmering broth. As she works, her normally elaborate hairstyle can be seen rearranging itself into a more subdued bun as needed.]

[Lithuania nods, idly glancing at his watch when she mentions time. He's used to death, being what he is, but the way Lydia died is horrible, especially considering how many people simply never realized.]

Knocking on locked doors in passing might be a good idea. Not our bedrooms, necessarily, but any others.

[alice'll hear her wingmate approaching, high heels making a distinct sound on the ballroom floor before the red-haired woman comes to put down two cups of tea by the table.]

...I'd offer a drink to clear your head, but you look like you'd be better off back in bed, Alice. Did you sleep at all, last night?

[she'll speak up casually at least, although not without a degree of severity, considering all that's happened of late.]

[Kaoru sits with a very light breakfast; little more than tea and fruit, which is picked at half-heartedly. having no appetite seems to be a theme in the breakfast room this morning, though. either way, the futile task is quickly abandoned as soon as Susan speaks.]

Ah, I believe that would be a good idea, Miss Sto Helit. ...But while we're on the topic of safety for us all, there's something I would like to ask you. [a beat. Kaoru looks vaguely nervous for a second before pressing on.]

There was mention yesterday of having everyone get rid of their chloroform and I believe that to be the best course of action, but I also believe that you would have the best chance of convincing others of this. You see, I spoke to Miss Carter about it at the trial, and she suggested that our best plan would be to appoint one or several "leader" figures... [can she see what great road this is going to travel down rapidly.]

[as promised, Belarus is, once again, digging; with a different purpose this time. She works tirelessly, in a familiar rhythm, digging out a ditch long and wide enough to lie down in.

Anyone is welcome to help, or contribute as they wish.]

Do you mind if I help?

Of course not.

(She's not usually up this early, but she makes an effort this morning. She doesn't want to miss seeing everyone at breakfast, after all.)

Right. I think there's something to be said about ground rules.

Everybody should wear a watch, and should get used to checking it a lot. I think we should all dump our chloroform. I don't know if people will agree to buddies, but we should agree to keep an eye on our wingmates. Like, just check up on them, let someone know if we're heading out somewhere alone.

And...I think we should make it a rule people all come check in for lunch and dinner. Maybe not breakfast, since it's so early, but if we all agree to be at lunch at noon on the dot and dinner at five, then it'll be easy to tell if somebody's missing, and there'll be less time that's up in the air.

(Marlow comes to lunch and waits for most people to show up and get their food. Once it seems like people have sat down, she stands up at her own table.)

Hey, guys? Anybody have a minute?

I got sidetracked with the trial and all, but Spain and I found something the other day. Just this weird piece of paper. I know it doesn't sound like much, but I couldn't find the book it was supposed to go to, and it doesn't even seem like it was in the right section.

So...I wonder if it could be a clue or something?

[personal profile] humanic 2013-09-29 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like I said before this whole mess started - buddy system might sound stupid and like we're back in elementary school again, but it beats dying or letting anyone else get killed. It'll also help establish alibis a lot easier.

Especially those of us without powers or martial arts or a thousand years of swordmanship or whatever. We're going to be the easiest and most tempting targets out of everyone, so we should be making sure we don't go around alone unless it's absolutely necessary.
pandacea: (point | he pulls out a gun and fires it)

[personal profile] pandacea 2013-09-29 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods enthusiastically.]

There is no point in keeping the chloroform unless you are planning to kill someone. Anyone who does not empty their bottle will be seen as extremely untrustworthy!

Are you suggesting appointing bodyguards for the weak among us?
humanic: (upset)

[personal profile] humanic 2013-09-29 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He watches her, fists clenched.]

...I wish there was some way we could preserve the body. She doesn't deserve to be left in this shitty place. And her family...they must be wondering where she is by now.
humanic: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] humanic 2013-09-29 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Just that we should be making sure they're still around as often as we can, and that they shouldn't go anywhere alone. No more 'oh hey, I haven't seen that Lydia girl anywhere in like two hours, I wonder if something's up with that'. Also by they, I totally mean us, because I'm one of those soft squishy powerless types in case my card didn't make it clear enough.

If those of you guys who can fight want to act as bodyguards, that'd be great. Assuming it's not just some ploy to kill an easy target yourself.

Latvia → Various

Friday → Parlor → 10am

[Anyone who walks into the bar in the morning will notice that nearly an entire shelf has been emptied of liquor. The bottles haven't gotten too far though. Latvia is laying on one of the sofas in the parlour, one of his feet on the cushions and his back propped up against the arm, several empty bottles lined up on the floor besides him with many full ones just beyond and a half empty bottle of wine in his hands, drinking before noon like the classy fucker he is. By the looks of things, the amount of alcohol should have at least knocked out a grown man but Latvia seems to be holding it very well]

Eey! You're still alive!

[...moderately well]

Saturday → Ballroom → 9:50am

[Even though he had a lot of time to sober up the previous evening (and a lot of time with the liquor bottles in his room) he still looks in a pretty bad state. About ten minutes before breakfast is finished he staggers into the ballroom, his expression a mix of exhaustion and irritation. He pours himself a large glass of water, sets it down on the table in front of him, rests his head in his arms and seemingly falls asleep again.

If you prod him a couple of times you'll find that he's still awake but he won't be happy]

It is? I've never read it.

But that's that book about the convict who comes back and tries to get revenge on everyone, right?
vytis: (oh tell me why)

[personal profile] vytis 2013-09-29 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lithuania nods.] After he was sent to prison without a trial. But he hurt innocent people, too, along the way.

[He pulls a face.] I suppose that's thematically appropriate, at least.
hollowheart: (Would you leave me)

[personal profile] hollowheart 2013-09-29 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It could also work as a two way system. If you volunteer to look out for something and end up murdering them, then you might as well paint a giant target on your back.
vytis: (promise me when you see a white rose)

[Lithuania pauses when he sees her. He wonders, suddenly, how many graves Belarus will dig. He wonders if anyone will ever have to dig one for her.]

I wonder if there's anything around here that can be used as a gravestone.
