...If a nation isn't a tract of land, then what is it?
motheringnation: (My flag strong and proud)

[personal profile] motheringnation 2013-09-27 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
We're the land, the people, the culture. We represent them all and we are them.
inthebones: (Surprise)

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-09-28 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
...You mean you're an anthropomorphic representation.

[Well. Susan was familiar enough with those. Just not in this way.]

But how on earth can so many subtleties as a country be condensed into one form? It isn't as if it's a single concept; there's much to much to consider.
motheringnation: (Well if you're sure)

[personal profile] motheringnation 2013-09-28 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. We've been called that.

[You are looking for logic with people-nations Susan, you will find none.]

It's hard to explain, we really ...just are. I just do my best to represent my people and to help them. I'm connected to them and the land.
inthebones: (Skeptical)

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-09-28 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Are you... a collection of stereotypes, then? A sort of amalgation of everything people think about your country in one?

I expect if Ankh-Morpork had a representation, it would be oozing sewer sludge, but perhaps your cities are much nicer.
motheringnation: (It might rain today)

[personal profile] motheringnation 2013-09-28 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[She thinks this over.]

No. Not really. I mean, I suppose some stereotypes might be like me. But there's so many of them, most of them negative and they change over the centuries. I've more or less always looked like this....well younger of course in the past...but my appearance has stayed the same whether my people are living in small villages or sprawling cities.

I've always thought of it more as being someone who watches over them. Like a parent.

[Susan continues to squint suspiciously at Ukraine.]

And how, exactly, did you come into being? The moment ten or twenty odd people first started settling on your land? ...And what happens if your borders are redefined? Do you lose a lot of weight?
motheringnation: (Er I don't think I heard you right)

[personal profile] motheringnation 2013-09-28 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I don't remember that far back. And my borders have changes a great deal actually, but no I don't lose weight. In fact when I was younger we were...

[She opens her mouth going to say more but pauses. She remembers the chaos of the mongols but after that...]

...I'm sorry I don't...remember....

[She tries again.]

I think I'm missing some time.... but later I was taken over and I had to live at my brothers house for a very long time, before I was able to get my independence again.

I'm sorry, I'm not explaining this very well am I?

No, but that's alright, I'd still be squinting at you even if you were.

[Susan stops squinting.]

It seems you've run up into the same thing I noticed earlier, in any case. I'm inclined to believe you're telling the truth because of what's written on your card, but it's all rather... fantastic.
