[Would that be... safer? Maybe. She asked the contestants to kill each other, rather than kill them herself. But the jokes about poisoning yesterday still echo in his mind]

Maybe... I'm not sure.

T-to be honest I really don't trust her.

[souredsweet]

[Kaoru's lips purse at that - the mention of not trusting the hostess, which is whole-heartedly agreed with.]

I don't, either. ...To be frank, even if she means us no harm by her own hands, the fact that she has put us into this abominable situation at all is unforgivable. [and then the flitter of anger is gone.]

Still, I doubt you would have to worry about anything she gives you. You should not make your illness worse if it can be helped.

[balzams]

Yeah...

[Well, it's not so much an illness rather than uncontrollable anxiety but an empty stomach might make it worse]

Do you know where I could find her?

[souredsweet]

[that gets him an apologetic headshake.]

I'm afraid I don't, but I imagine she may be gracing us with her presence again tonight.

[balzams]

[But that would mean more waiting and less hiding]

Just in case she isn't... I might just take something light and leave.

I hope that you will be able to find something soothing for your stomach, sir. With luck, a light meal will have you back to feeling well.

As long as it isn't poisoned...

[It just slipped out, he hadn't really meant to say it. Originally he was just going to wait the few minutes before the food came out in silence but now he wondered if he should just go]

[and Kaoru looks momentarily surprised, but it quickly gives way to a look of understanding.]

It is a natural concern to have with the circumstances as they are. However, I believe that you will not have to worry about such a thing. I have faith that the people here will not succumb to such a foul promise, and our hostess will surely not interfere, either.

[Why is everyone here so hopelessly optimistic?]

I'm sorry but that just seems a bit... idealistic.

Maybe it's just the kind of lifestyle you had before, but people will do almost anything out of desperation.

[souredsweet]

[because the other half is full of pessimists!! Kaoru's face falls a little at that.]

I do not think it to be too idealistic... It is in human nature to be kind, I believe, even if desperation may cause some to act out.

[balzams]

But those people are few and far between, and even they have their limits.

I think it's much better to try and minimize the risks...

[souredsweet]

[Kaoru's brow furrows further, looking a little disheartened.]

...I suppose it would be wise to do such a thing in such an unusual situation. Still, it would be nice to believe that this hope and faith is not in vain.

[balzams]

If that's what makes you feel better...

[THIS IS TRAGIC and this entire conversation is depressing... figuring there's little else that can be said, Kaoru simply offers a shallow bow.]
