[ He just laughs at the questions, shrugging. ]

You're askin' entirely the wrong person. I don't know much about history other than the basics, so I can't give you a good answer. A country is basically just a big collection of people that decide they're all the same enough to group themselves together. Well, more or less, since there's still lots of divisions in those too, but that's gettin' into politics.

[speakveryclearly]

...I see.

[She really, really doesn't; she just sees that he can't convey it much better than she understands.]

You're not particularly invested in the government of your home, then, I take it?

Not at all. I've lived in small towns my whole life, so things like that? Don't matter. Never bothered to learn much about them.

[ He shrugs ] Sorry I can't give you much of an answer.

Pardon my curiosity, but are tattoos a popular custom in said small towns? They were prominently mentioned on your card.

[coca_cola]

Not at all. But when I go into the city, I can't help myself sometimes but to get them. I like the idea behind 'em. It's truly carrying something with you for your whole life, so it has to mean somethin' important to you.

[ He rubs at the back of his neck, almost sheepishly, then chuckles ] So I've gotten a few, I guess. Got my first one when I was 16, and since then, I get one when I think of a design I like.

You've never regretted any...? [She's impressed and intrigued, listening and watching closely.] I wish I could be decisive like that.

[coca_cola]

Not in the slightest. The trick is that you have to think about it for a long time, to make sure it's somethin' you really want.

[ He unbuttons the cuff of his left arm, starting to roll up the sleeve to show the tattoo there. It's as the information card said, there's a dagger through a heart and the initials "E.B.W." on his left forearm. It's nothing very detailed, but he chuckles. ]

Even this one, it's kind of a reminder of an old time. It's the first tattoo I got, and it was stupid, since they're the initials of my girl at the time, but we went our separate ways. So being decisive doesn't help all the time, but I can look at it and remember my first love, basically. Tattoos have the reputation of bein' for tough guys, but most of 'em are really sappy when it comes down to it.

[speakveryclearly]

[Staring at the tattoo and not him.] That's silly, there's nothing weak about it. Doesn't it take a great deal of courage and strength to fall in love?

[Then a question occurs to her - middle names: not a thing in her culture.]

I suppose the dagger has an obvious potential connection as a preferred strife specibus but... Why three initials?

[ He chuckles sheepishly at her first comment, but doesn't touch on it. It's a strange feeling that comes with it, like he's forgetting something important, so... He doesn't want to push on that feeling while someone's around. So instead he focuses on the second bit, and while some of the words fly right over his head, thankfully the question itself is easy to answer. ]

One for each part of her name. Eleanor Bee Williams, you know?

[Her fingers move a little as he explains - one, two, three - and then oh, that checks out.] Oh, I see. That was rather disingenuous, sorry.

No apologies necessary. I asked you one disingenuous question, so you got to ask one in return.

[ He chuckles pleasantly to make it clear that he's just teasing gently and starts to roll his sleeve back down. ]

I'm gonna take a guess and say middle names aren't common where you come from? I've met people without 'em before, but it's unusual.

They're pretty much nonexistent, yes. There's a lot of standardization that applies to names back there, in fact... [Catching herself beginning to ramble, so concludes with] A lot more variety in this manor than I've seen before in all my prior sweeps put together.

I get what you mean, for the most part, but... Sweeps? What's that supposed to be?

Uh... sorry, it's a long period of time. Like a year. About two years, actually.

[coca_cola]

[ He nods, though his expression is quite intrigued! ]

Huh, that so? Seems like I'm learnin' all kinds of things today.

[ And Clyde pauses to put a forkful of eggs in his mouth, but being a little less than well-mannered, sort of just continues ] Speakin' of, name's Clyde.

So am I. [A beat as she attempts to refrain from making a slightly judgmental expression towards Clyde's conduct.]

[ And though he doesn't pick up on the judgement, he's still curious, so! ] You ain't gonna eat anything?
