I hope you haven't been given any grief over it. [and then the concern shifts to a mild surprise.] Ah... Have you? What do you think of it?

Not as much as I could. [Win Some Lose Some is the idea expressed before she moves on to the whole humor thing.]

It's just a little lonely, being the only one to take things so "literally". On Alternia, we didn't have a special word for interpreting sentences in exact accordance with what was said.

I suppose that will have to do for now... [said hesitantly, though, since even a little bit is too much! as for the lack of a word for literally, though:]

We did! That's the worst part! [This seems to be a frustration of ours.] Sarcasm on Alternia was a device employed for a rhetorical purpose. Do you know what I mean? Like - a spice. With a judicious use.

And then with humanity it's like... like everything needs to be packed up in ice instead of kept cool in a thermal hull... [Catching herself, apologetic look--] Re-fri-ger-a-tor, sorry.

[Kaoru gets the first explanation at least and nods along in understanding - too much sarcasm can just get narmy, after all. BUT THEN there's only a vaguely lost look.]

I'm afraid I don't know what either of those things are. [aw yeah being from the past...]

Really? [And then a memory floats up from Kaoru's info card other than the gender mis/marking: By 1860s standards. Right, wasn't her cohort... the memories around that are vague but human calendars used the year 2009 as recently as she could recall.]

I suppose you must also be from a year beyond mine, then. To think that the future will have things like ice boxes and electricity fences... [close, so close...]

You aren't still reliant on hoofbeasts to get from place to place, are you.

...If by "hoofbeasts" you mean horses, that is the main method of travel when it comes to longer distances, yes. What other means of transport are you familiar with?
