murder manor - reunion part II

murder manor reunion

[You are in a darkened theater.

In front of you is an enormous cinema screen. On it plays video of the manor, accompanied by appropriate sound effects and background instrumentals when fitting. The seat you're sitting on is large and plush, and while there's many of them, there's enough room in the theatre for you to fully recline the seat into a comfortable bed if you wish.

Follow the stairs up and you'll reach what should be the projection room. There are no projectors in here, however; it is simply a large and well-lit room above the main seating area, and a good place to hang out with your fellow eliminated contestants if shouting at each other across the aisles proves too much to handle.

If you leave the theatre through the door in the back, you'll find yourself in a hall. On one end is a concession stand. It's stocked with standard movie snacks - popcorn, candy and the like - but if you're feeling the urge for something else, you'll be able to find it stocked somewhere in the back. On the other end is a table with thirty wrapped bags and a placard reading 'A star for our stars! Please accept these lovely giftbags as a token of appreciation for your hard work, sponsored by [illegible smudge]'. Each bag has a tag bearing the name of someone in the mansion; you will only be able to open the bag with your name on it. As soon as you open it, any memories that have been taken from you, including those of the other people in the mansion that you may have forgotten, will be returned in their entirety. Within the bag are also objects from your home that you may want for your stay here, though you will find no weapons.

There are no other doors in the hall save for the one leading back into the theatre room. There are also no windows; it is impossible to tell where you are and what is going on in the outside world. Any attempts to break out will fail. So in the meantime, why not sit back and enjoy the show?]

Murder Manor reunion week continues! This week is taking place outside the game (and will not be remembered by the living characters). Once the week is over, the living characters will be right back where they left off, Sunday night in the manor.

During the times when Doris is taking questions, characters will not be able to talk about things that are 'off topic.' They can talk and reunite with one another, but need to focus on things relevant to that week or topic of discussion. Any time they get off topic, they will find themselves stuck trying to make the words come out of their mouth and will simply trail off. There will be breaks where characters can talk without this restriction, but the same will happen to anyone who, at any time, starts trying to talk about anything to do with there being a Mastermind or player to benefit from the game or planted player who isn't Lithuania. Codes and other attempts to get around this rule will still result in trailing off.

All the living characters have now arrived, and all characters may participate, although Yuzu is not here and characters may notice Belarus, Clyde, and Michael Altman seem to be empty shells.

It is useless. It's all been useless! From the very start, it's been useless for all of us. This entire horrible show has been nothing but an exercise in hopelessness! Now two-thirds of our number is dead and who knows how many of you might actually make it out in the end!

[he's snappish out of fright and little else, even if it manifests in such a backwards way.]

Don't say that. [ The implications are something she isn't willing to face, though her shoulders do droop a bit. ] They can threaten us all they want, but it doesn't actually mean...

[ Rapture becomes crestfallen. This isn't a game anymore — it never was — and she doesn't know if the revelation of Minx actually being alive makes it better or worse that this is all possibly happening. They are the only thing she's fighting for. ]

We can't just let it happen... I'm not going to give up or be weak just because someone thinks they're better than me, better than us.

It does though, doesn't it? Isn't that exactly what it means? [his fury doesn't seem to be slowing any time soon, but it shifts to something a little less explosive upon seeing Rapture's reaction. he hates being on this side of despair - it's why he delights so much in seeing others in that position. he hates the reminder that they're in such a horrible, horrible situation.

still... he makes an agitated gesture - a thumb rubbing over the knuckles of his opposite hand - and worries his lip for a second.]

We can't— do anything from this side. Not that we've discovered yet. The people who are responsible for this... I hate them. I don't want them to think that they're better than us. [but the unspoken question rings loud: what can they do?]

There still has to be something! [ Rapture takes a moment to run her hands over her face as her voice is muffled by her hands. ] Riot would know what to do...

[ But Riot isn't here so she crosses her arms and her own share of worrying. Her tongue presses against the inside of her cheek as she taps a finger on her arm, her expression contemplative. ] There's always a weak point. Some kind of loophole or fabrication of truth. If we exploit that... then we might have a chance. [ Her jaw sets and she looks back at Kaoru, dangerously adamant about discovering such a weakness. ] From either side.

We have to think about where our own mistakes got us caught and use that against them. Someone with this much ambition is bound to forget to overlook something that could easily reveal who they are.

[he has his doubts on whether or not anyone would be able to do anything, but that stubborn sort of determination... it's familiar enough in a way to help assuage some of his initial panic. he can be just as bullheaded when he wants, too, and he tries to summon some of that up now.]

..."There is no box with only an entrance and no exit." [hadn't he said that himself just a week ago?]

Well... Exploiting a weakness. That should be something we can manage - if we can find it. [and taking what she's said into consideration:] Annie was the only one to fool everyone with a decent margin, and that was week two. We've all had time to contemplate our mistakes since then, right? Murderers got better, but the investigation did, too. If you can use that, the true Mastermind can be found.

And what happened to Lithuania — what he said before he... [ Her expression softens, not taking to life ending explosions. ] ...before he died, what caused him to die, that wasn't supposed to happen.

But I guess they planned for it just in case it did. It was rigged so that we would think we caught the real Mastermind and would eliminate the rest of us instead. Whoever's pulling the strings know what they're doing and we don't have much time. Finding whatever mistake could bring them down has to be quick, before any of us end up not going home.

The most the nine... eight of us — not counting the real puppet master — can do is try to find it before time runs out. For all of our sakes.

[having witness Rapture's reaction on the screen before the power went out, he knows exactly what that brief hesitation is there for. he doesn't have much empathy, not even in the face of such an unfair and gruesome demise, but his anger toward the one pulling all of their strings is more than enough to have him nodding along.]

Then this will have to be the fastest you've ever solved a crime. ...Six of us are here because you had the ability to piece clues together well enough to condemn us. Let's make it seven. You had better not let them get away with what they've done.

I won't. We won't.

[ Her confidence seems to swiftly return, similarly to how she was acting the first week. ] I won't let this Mastermind make a fool of the Stingers when we've risen above all to reach the top! We've never been defeated and I'm not going to allow a chance of that happening.

We've taken two days to solve murders before, this won't be any different. Everything is there to use to our advantage.

[he still seems somewhat skeptical, hesitant - but Rapture's confidence is catching to at least a small degree.]

Good. If that's the case... Then I'll make sure that we do whatever we can on this side to ensure victory on your side.

Then that can be your favor to me.

[ She smirks and thrusts out her hand for a handshake. ]

Deal?

[this is the first time anyone's offered the gesture to him, so he looks at her hand in brief confusion for a second before holding his own out in a mimic of the gesture... it's the thought that counts....]

A deal.
