Think about how the culprit acted and how she played along with the storyline. Siren's performance was the most important part of it all, it's how she was figured out.
[ Goodness, does she have to explain everything? Rapture just holds back a sigh and feigns indifference instead. ]
Many people didn't think it would be Siren either, but she nearly fooled a bunch of people into thinking that she was horrified at the notion that Dave Strider was perhaps going to come after her. She even blatantly lied to Susan about how her hair powers worked.
When it was narrowed down to her and Altman being the killers, her only fault was Altman's reaction to holding the body.
Alice is highly trained and, despite her sympathy toward Annie, it doesn't make her any less suspicious. She's militant, thorough, but she still has the skills. It wasn't exactly the cleanest kill that would come from someone like her, but to me, she could still be considered an affable culprit.
Touko, on the other hand... surely, one might thing she isn't so dumb to leave her cigarette ash by the crime scene, right? Well, maybe she was stressed. Maybe it turned out that what she thought was going to turn out, didn't. What do smokers do when they're feeling stressed?
[He doesn't want to admit it but she did have a point. Putting the ash there to frame her just didn't make any sense when it could be easily blown away outside]
She's confident, isn't she? Almost to the point of aloofness. She's familiar with puppets and knives. Killing an apprentice as powerful as hers would create even more tension.
Something went wrong and she wasn't expecting it. Her confidence still couldn't overpower her stress, tied to an addiction of nicotine that would calm someone down in a moment of frustration, allowing her to rethink her plan.
[She was nice to him all of one time but that didn't mean a thing here. The trembling that had plagued him throughout the trial started to become stronger]
Many people thought the same of Siren who performed almost flawlessly were it not for Michael Altman. Bernkastel was very diplomatic and kept to herself, but exuded in confidence to me that she enjoyed to play games. Annie was assured because of her background. Kanaya was absolutely meticulous and confident enough to know she could attack Rin in a short amount of time without anyone noticing.
Does it really surprise you that the ones who are seemingly kind are actually the ones who eliminate others?

But out of everyone, Mr. Barrow was the only one on the dispensable or dead weight list that isn't a suspect.

... I don't know, I'm not as good at reading people as you are. So are you saying you've narrowed it down to Miss Aozaki and Miss Alice?
I... I really don't think Miss Aozaki would have done it, I just can't imagine her carrying out something so cruel...

They smoke.

I-I still don't think...
[Or rather he didn't want to think]

She would have... She...

There must be something else...

Could... Could you please just leave me alone for a bit? I need to think about some things...

Of course. [ Rapture turns away on her heel and departs, as if they were simply having a normal conversation. ]
