[At 9 AM precisely, the old grandfather clock chimes once again, and the doors to the drawing room are opened. They will remain open until everyone has come inside, after which they will shut behind them. It is not possible to leave on your own, although perhaps if you have a specific purpose the hostess will allow you to go, as long as you are accompanied by a partner.

The room is set up comfortably, with several tables by the fireplace set out to assist with the trial. The Hostess will also remain in a seat near the fireplace, next to the scales on the mantle. At lunch, the doors will open to bring in a large meal on an automatically rolling buffet, and at 3 PM, tea and finger sandwiches will be served. You'll be able to enjoy the trial in comfort, of course, but the information cards set out on tables will not allow you to forget your true purpose here.

At 7 PM, the trial will adjourn for the day. Players will be escorted by the Hostess to the ballroom, where dinner and wine will be served until 10 PM, at which point players will be required to return to their wings in groups with their wingmates and will be locked in their bedrooms until 8:30 AM the following morning.]

[the first question gets a nod regardless, but Kaoru looks mildly surprised at her offer.]

...That is kind of you, and I thank you for it. Still... it is the last request that Miss Maryam asked of me. I will complete it for her sake. [a pause, and Kaoru's head dips in apology.] I should have known in that moment something was amiss. I apologize for inflicting grief upon you and the other three suspects. Accidental though it was, had someone innocent been executed...

[inthebones]

...There's no need for apology, Kaoru. I probed you just as thoroughly when you when you were a suspect, as you recall. This is necessarily what has to happen if we're going to get to the truth of these murders.

[A pause.]

I say that as if murders are inevitable. ...I suppose the incentives will only become more enticing from here. There's nothing that will stop it from continuing, is there...

[souredsweet]

I recall, and I know that it is necessary... I should have questioned Miss Maryam as thoroughly. [but from the start, Kaoru had written her off as an impossible suspect. Kanaya's letter had made it quite clear that the kitchen set up wasn't committed without guilt, but it's left Kaoru feeling quite drained regardless.

the only thing Susan's point seems to bring about is a further sense of resignation.] ...I wish that I could say it is not so, but I do not have that optimism with me any longer.

[inthebones]

...I believe that was the idea all along. It's a game that will end with all of us inevitably dead. This isn't a game that's meant to be won - the only way to win is to stop playing.

I hope we see it before it's too late.

[souredsweet]

[with a somewhat grim look:]

I will redouble my search efforts, then... Miss Aihara and I were discussing earlier that it might be best to take another look at that building outside, as well. The servant's wing, I believe?

...I spent quite a lot of time examining the servant's wing last week, yes. But that doesn't mean you won't have any success.

[To be honest, Susan doubted there were any secret passages leading out of this place. The only way to escape was to refuse to play...]

[likewise, Kaoru is hoping less for a secret passage and more for a way to turn the fence off...]

It would be best if we could get as many people as possible to try a successful attack... Different abilities may get different results.

[inthebones]

True enough. I have a sufficient amount of strength for my needs, but perhaps a trained swordswoman will be able to progress further.

[Strangely throwing pokers at things doesn't solve every situation.]

[souredsweet]

It will be difficult without a proper katana, but I will see what I can do.

[it will probably be about as effective as throwing pokers in the end...] Would you accompany me when I endeavor to do this?

[inthebones]

...Certainly, if you'd like. I don't know that I'll truly be of much help, though.

[A nod before Susan takes a step away.]

I'll leave you to your task, then. ...Try to get some rest.

[souredsweet]

That is fine. I simply... do not wish to attempt it on my own.

[and after Yuzu gets put on the target list, Kaoru will be trying to drag her out as well.] ...Thank you, though. I will sleep as soon as I have finished carrying these to their destinations. [a bow.]
