week 4 - trial

week four trial

[At 9 AM precisely, the old grandfather clock chimes once again, and the doors to the drawing room are opened. They will remain open until everyone has come inside, after which they will shut behind them. It is not possible to leave on your own, although perhaps if you have a specific purpose the hostess will allow you to go, as long as you are accompanied by a partner.

The room is set up comfortably, with several tables by the fireplace set out to assist with the trial. The Hostess will also remain in a seat near the fireplace, next to the scales on the mantle. At lunch, the doors will open to bring in a large meal on an automatically rolling buffet, and at 3 PM, tea and finger sandwiches will be served. You'll be able to enjoy the trial in comfort, of course, but the information cards set out on tables will not allow you to forget your true purpose here.

At 7 PM, the trial will adjourn for the day. Players will be escorted by the Hostess to the ballroom, where dinner and wine will be served until 10 PM, at which point players will be required to return to their wings in groups with their wingmates and will be locked in their bedrooms until 8:30 AM the following morning.]

[ And he will follow! Though en route and as they search around, he'll also ask a question he's been wondering about. ]

So now that I won't be makin' a fool of myself in front of everyone, mind if I ask a question? Rin, she was a...What, a robot, I think I heard someone say? Mind givin' me a run-down of what that is, exactly? I'm a bit lost on that detail.

That [nodding at Susan] woman would be the best one to do such things. She could tell if anyone was coming and use her ability to escape unnoticed. She's too convenient.

Alright then, lets go Kaoru. I'll lead the way.

[And off they go to the Ruby Wing, to check out Touko's room.]

I looked around the music room but nothing stood out so. If it did exist somebody deliberately took it with them.

Which means it's super important. Probably.

Of course not! Our first priority must always be to investigate and gather as much evidence as possible before making a verdict. And I am absolutely positive the evidence will reveal that they are innocent!

Fo' sho! That's the best part!

[He's not even pretending he's not curious about it. For once there's no secret to the incentive.]
terriblesister: ((srs) god help me)

[personal profile] terriblesister 2013-10-17 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
With a sword though? You'd expect a knife if they were taking that route.

...Maybe it'll be clearer once we see the incentives. There's nothing to say the item can only benefit one person, right?
pandacea: (:D | he orders a meal and eats it)

[personal profile] pandacea 2013-10-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't say that, Miss Kaoru - the trial has barely even started yet! I am sure your insight will be necessary in catching the culprit!

You mean a robot? [She quietly recalls her meeting with G-OLM and how...interesting..."he" was. Yeah...she lets out a frustrated breath at the thought and then explains.] It's an autonomous machine, usually programmed to behave in a certain way or guided remotely to perform certain actions. There are robots that work in factories and even in houses for instance, though none quite like Rin. She was a fully functioning robot who could communicate and even have thought processes. I've only seen one other robot that could do that, but she may have been more advance than 'him'.
vytis: (oh tell me why)

[personal profile] vytis 2013-10-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as it didn't take her more than five minutes...
pandacea: (hmm | what's black and white and yellow?)

[personal profile] pandacea 2013-10-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes...if Miss Susan is right about when Rin died, then we should examine the alibis more closely. The killer would have had to strike in a very short timeframe.
terriblesister: ((srs) out of the frying pan?)

[personal profile] terriblesister 2013-10-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
...Cleaning supplies? How much was there?
aozaki: (◇ come see me in my office)

[personal profile] aozaki 2013-10-17 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[She grows quiet.]

That is a first. Let's say there was an accomplice, but even if the killer had help, for the accomplice's presence to count means they must've been around after the kill. Recall week one and two's murders: Bernkastel and Annie both had no need to stay around and make sure their targets were dead. The method of murder, while lethal, still took time, but that window also gave them the chance to forge a solid alibi. So what's the point, doing this now? The rules also explicitly say that only the murderer will obtain their prize, an accomplice gets nothing other than endanger their own lives unless there are two bodies for the crime.

I can locate anyone at will when I'm looking for them - I don't have an automatic sensor that tells me where everyone is at all times. There wouldn't be any mystery to the murders then.

I'm gratified you think I have the mental capacity to cycle through 20 plus names constantly while carrying out a murder, but there are some things even I can't do.
mostlymarried: (wandering heart)

[personal profile] mostlymarried 2013-10-17 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
She'd only need it once she felt someone coming. A lot can be done in five minutes.
inthebones: (Talk down)

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-10-17 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I maintain that we should all stay in the ballroom from now on and never leave save for washroom breaks, but I suppose I'm outnumbered on this one.

[Well, at least the items selected are mixed up a little from last week apparently]

Hmm, if the mystery box contains chemicals... maybe that's why her wound was smoking?

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-10-17 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Not exactly.

She was there at 3:00. I couldn't locate her anymore at 3:15 - whether that means the murderer closed the door to carry out the deed or whether she was already dead, I'm not sure.
aozaki: (Default)

[personal profile] aozaki 2013-10-17 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[She had to laugh despite the circumstances...]

You're a little too eager, Beat. How many rooms did you call dibs on, already?
mostlymarried: (no u)

[personal profile] mostlymarried 2013-10-17 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Even then, you could use it to confirm the doll was isolated. If there is an accomplice as is said, it would be even easier for you.

Though I am curious. How can you track a doll that is not truly alive to start with?
inthebones: (Solemn)

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-10-17 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
If I say I'm going to keep track of everyone, it's not very helpful if I don't actually check up on them when they've gone missing, is it?
respecting: (sweet danger)

I will hope that you are correct... Even if I am not able to make any deductions based on the sword, I will still do my best to aid where I can.

[ "Him"? His eyebrows raise slightly at the word, but he doesn't push the issue. That could be for later. ]

A machine, huh? Hard to imagine a machine bein' so much like a person, but I've seen plenty of crazy stuff here already, so. [ He shrugs ] Guess I gotta take it for what it is. Stuff like that makes me feel really out of the loops, though.

I'm just saying. None of this stuff would kill a robot. She's immune to poison and she's supposed to be totally water proof.

Granted these bottles clearly aren't water when you sniff them but you know. Liquid and whatever.
