WEEK 3 - TRIAL

week three trial

[At 9 AM precisely, the old grandfather clock chimes once again, and the doors to the drawing room are opened. They will remain open until everyone has come inside, after which they will shut behind them. It is not possible to leave on your own, although perhaps if you have a specific purpose the hostess will allow you to go, as long as you are accompanied by a partner.

The room is set up comfortably, with several tables by the fireplace set out to assist with the trial. The Hostess will also remain in a seat near the fireplace, next to the scales on the mantle. At lunch, the doors will open to bring in a large meal on an automatically rolling buffet, and at 3 PM, tea and finger sandwiches will be served. You'll be able to enjoy the trial in comfort, of course, but the information cards set out on tables will not allow you to forget your true purpose here.

At 7 PM, the trial will adjourn for the day. Players will be escorted by the Hostess to the ballroom, where dinner and wine will be served until 10 PM, at which point players will be required to return to their wings in groups with their wingmates and will be locked in their bedrooms until 8:30 AM the following morning.]

[Belarus' room has a bit of an odd dichotomy; some areas are neat, orderly and clean and some areas have just been a dumping ground. It shows, in short, someone who just has no respect for this house; she has apparently gone through her wardrobe and just tossed anything she didn't like the look of wearing on the opposite side of the bed.

The chloroform is missing, since she left it with the disposal brigade, the letter opener can be found bent and twisted, discarded amongst all the abandoned clothes and the penknife is still in the drawer, unopened and untouched. There is a kitchen knife under her pillow, however, and a small, old-looking tin flask is there in her cabinet, which has been emptied of everything that wasn't vodka / strong spirits. The handkerchief is nowhere to be found.

A muddy shovel is left propped up near the door; the same one she uses when digging.

Of the clothing that remains in her wardrobe, it is exclusively the heaviest / most practical things she could find, particularly in the form of coats. Given her preferences for being outside, there has been a clear losing battle against mud where boots, coats and the shovel are concerned but otherwise everything is clean and fairly ordered.

There are a few books on electricity and woodwork on her desk, along with a notebook filled with musings on investigations and missing memories that on closer inspection is actually Ukraine's. Next to it, in a watered pot, is a pair of sunflowers, swaying gently in the breeze of the open window.]

[Kaoru will take a quick moment to pay respects to the sunflowers on the desk before proceeding with the investigation. as with Spain's room, the clothing that is in the discarded pile on her bed, the ones left in the wardrobe, and any still in the chest will all be examined for blood. the shoes are likewise inspected, as is the handle of the shovel just in case.

Kaoru will also be making note of the state of the liquor cabinet, grabbing the letter opener to take along and ask what the heck happened there, and checking the kitchen knife for any potential traces of blood or dulled edges.]

[there are no blood traces anywhere, and the kitchen knife is sharp as usual.]

[and even though Kaoru will soon be shanking Dave all over again with the katana to confirm the size of the blade used, the knife will be taken along just in case.

the areas beneath the bed, the bedsheets, and behind the curtains will be checked just to be certain. the tin flask will also be opened and sniffed at (from a polite distance because who wants some stranger's nose up in their drink).]

[There's nothing to be found behind the curtains etc. The flask contains either very strong alcohol or possibly liquid bread 1600s-era vodka]

[wow that is horrific!! but definitely not a secret stash of chloroform thank god, no one wants a repeat of latvia.

Kaoru will flip through the notebook last and then check the penknife for signs of use before turning to head back into the main area to find Belarus and ask what beef she has with the letter opener...]

[there are no signs of use with the penknife; it probably has never even been opened. She hasn't made any additions to the notebooks either; judging from a bookmark, she was in the process of reading through them instead.]

[after making sure that everything is placed back as neatly as possible, Kaoru will exit the room.]
