To be honest, I am not sure anymore. I believe that killing someone...is not always an evil thing to do if they are not innocent. Before I came here, I had a companion whose entire race had been decimated by the Amestrians and the few survivors banished to live in the slums of the country. He sought to take vengeance on the state alchemists, those who acted as human weapons during the genocide. I do not know if his path was the right one to take, but neither can I pass judgement on him when I too would kill the other contenders for the throne of Xing if it meant saving my clan.
But even so...he never once tried to pin the blame for his deeds on others. He bore the full responsibility for their deaths, even though I know it was not something he ever took pride in. It is the dishonesty in this horrible game that I cannot stand. If you are willing to take a life, then you must be willing to face the consequences for it. To be killed in battle or because you are not on your guard is one thing, but it is even worse to be executed for someone else's crimes and powerless to do anything to stop it.

What would you say to a person like that, young one? You would still cast judgment upon their deeds?

[She narrows her eyes.] Still. We are not beasts. Xiao Mei's family may have cast her out for being small and weak, but they cannot be blamed for acting true to their nature. As humans though, we should strive to be better. We know what is good and what is evil, even if it is difficult to tell sometimes. Animals do not understand the concept of justice, but we do, and to turn our backs on it for selfish reasons is wrong.
To fight for our survival is one thing. Everyone should have the right to live. But because we are not beasts, we should be able to work together to find a way out of this situation without killing any more people. None of these incentives so far have been worth the sacrifice of two innocent lives - the only reason people have died is because others have deemed their lives less important than a secret or a memory. And in this game, death only causes more death. If we simply choose not to kill anyone, as humans, then we could stop this cycle for good.

[But he goes quiet as she speaks, and closes his eyes. Something in the tension that's been in him today fades away, and when he opens them again, he smiles.]
So that is how you truly see it... Then it can't be helped.

[She tilts her head.] What cannot be helped, Mr. Gundam?

We will see this cycle ended, as you say.
