[There is; he always wears coats with deep pockets, both for carrying treats and for allowing his hamsters to rest there. But he looks a little flustered with the question.]

I...you misunderstand me, I do not beg for your charity. You may keep the fruits of your own labor.

Vampires don't live off of dried fruit and neither do human beings.

It's not charity to perform for someone else an action they couldn't execute themselves. And if a hamster could wield a kitchen knife I would be very surprised.

[Though not entirely surprised. Those are some ridiculously dexterous hamsters.]

Then...you did this only for they?

[He wasn't expecting that, and he softens a little, looking surprised. He just assumed she made this for herself, and thought he would ask for a share. The concept of someone going out of their way to help him, or to help him care for his animals, it foreign, but he's touched.

He'll take the tray a little hesitantly, expression shy.]

[She hesitates, a little unsure how to answer. To describe herself as genuinely interested in beasts ]

Well, the library's subject matter loses its appeal in our situation, and after what happened last week I'm never touching a sewing kit again.

[He's still touched, but a little less flustered; the explanation that she wants to be productive makes sense.]

Well, they will appreciate it. This will suit their appetites well.

Good. Let me know if they start to deplete the supply; on the one prong the amount seems relatively large but on the other there are four of them.

This should be sufficient for some time...fruit for them is like a treat, a supplement to their nutrition, not the main course.

[He takes one of the dried pieces of fruit and feeds it to the female hamster, smiling to himself as she takes it in her claws and nibbles.]
