[At 9 AM precisely, the old grandfather clock chimes once again, and the doors to the drawing room are opened. They will remain open until everyone has come inside, after which they will shut behind them. It is not possible to leave on your own, although perhaps if you have a specific purpose the hostess will allow you to go. The room is set up comfortably, with several tables by the fireplace set out to assist with the trial. The Hostess will also remain in a seat near the fireplace, next to the scales on the mantle. At lunch, the doors will open to bring in a large meal on an automatically rolling buffet, and at 3 PM, tea and finger sandwiches will be served. You'll be able to enjoy the trial in comfort, of course, but the information cards set out on tables will not allow you to forget your true purpose here.]

[And as she has received permission from the Hostess, Susan will nod to Kaoru and step briskly out the door.]

I'd like to retrieve the box for examination if necessary. I don't suppose anyone can dust for prints, but it shouldn't hurt.

You are welcome. [Kaoru walks quickly to keep up, being a good deal shorter. the question "what box?" is put on hold for that last statement, though.]

I'm sorry, but... dusting for prints? [THE FUTURE IS COMPLEX.]

A means of identification. We don't have the tools necessary, regardless.

[And as the smoking room is right next to the billiards room, it takes all of ten seconds for Susan to head for the correct drawer. She will, however, recognize the value of having a moment in semi-privacy and linger.]

There was a roll of tape in this box when we arrived. This morning, I noticed it was missing.

[She retrieves the box of magic supplies and removes the lid for Kaoru's examination.]

[Kaoru peers into the box once the lid is removed, though there's a vaguely baffled look. the reason for it will become soon in just a second; this might be a frustrating conversation for Susan whoops]

I'm afraid I do not know what tape is, either. Do you believe it to be related to the murder of that young woman? [a beat, and then:]

How did you think to check?

I didn't. I was looking for something else.

[Susan will leave that up to Kaoru's imagination.]

If I take the term correctly, water-soluble tape indicates an adhesive that dissolves in water. I'm afraid we don't have any in my time, either, but the phrasing is clear enough.

[souredsweet]

[Kaoru won't question her further on it, but the mention of a water-soluble adhesive is enough to cause a look of unease. highly, highly premeditated...]

Mm... Let us return, then. I hope that you will have your name cleared quickly.

[inthebones]

I would prefer to be chosen if it means we don't execute another innocent. Death is an old friend of mine.

[With that unsettling remark, Susan will turn back to the smoking room.]
