Hmmmm. [She really has a lot to learn about Earth fauna. Flora, though, are a little more her area of expertise.]

The conservatory has intense enough sunlight that I think it might actually be possible to dry some of the fruit there. If this game's going to last a few months that might not be an unreasonable measure to take.

Y...yes, that might be sufficient.

[He looks a little startled by her help.]

They will thrive on less than an ideal diet, but it would be best to prepare a more permanent food source. I see that you are familiar in the mannerisms of beasts.

Not hardly. I couldn't even identify that species. [Her modesty demands clarification.] I just grew up in a desert oasis so maintaining a garden was important there... that's all.

[She begins to look over the fruits, thinking about which ones would sun-dry best.]

I see...

[He doesn't really understand why she would want to help him, then, if she's not interested in animals.]

They cannot eat everything a human can eat. They must not eat spices nor anything artificially colored, but even their intake of fruits and vegetables must be at a minimum.

[Actually wondering if any Alternian food isn't artificially colored.]

Yes, there are vegetables including pumpkins growing in the garden. With additional maturity, the pumpkin seeds will do splendidly.

Is the pumpkin itself suitable or not?

Hm...in small pieces. But the seeds are the true prize, as they are their favorite food.

You know these creatures' habits intimately, huh.

Of course.

For these creatures to accept the company of one not of their own kind means to place their trust and reliance in that one. I have undertaken a solemn duty to provide for these dark beasts, my role in the contract for their loyalty.

So a sort of communion fostered with them...

Pardon my asking - why these ones? Is there some specific product they produce or task they can perform, or are they just good companions?

[godwhisperer]

Hmph. They are capable of many incredible tasks. If you chose to view their ability, you would be stunned into silence. And though their kind do not always provide companionship with the ease of beasts such as canines, these have accepted me as master and kingdom. I have made my body their home.

[He looks embarrassed for a second, and pulls his scarf over his face.]

Besides, they are...cute...

Their kind does not mind being caged, so long as it is spacious and they receive sufficient exercise. But my fearsome familiars are simply more at ease in my company.

These creatures have short lives compared even to mere humans. But since the hour of their birth, they have been raised by my hand alone.
