The person Mordswell was referring to in his diary was Lithuania. Mordswell created a disease that killed all of his people. Lithuania isn't himself - he never was himself, not when we knew him.
What more could there be? Do you need a ten page signed confession in triplicate? It explains his moral degeneration, though I admit the motive remains unclear apart from spite against the world.
