I leave cigarettes in my room, anyone with access to it could easily find some. [a beat.] Ruby #1 is closest to the bar and the ballroom exit, I did always find that convenient - maybe a bit too much, now.
Ah, please don't misunderstand! I would never accuse you of such an act! I was just thinking that perhaps she may have tricked you somehow if you two were particularly close...but since you are not, it's not a problem! [seems...strangely happy about this...?]
If a skeleton key was involved, they could've went into anyone's room. Clyde would be easy to frame for the same reason, if pomade was involved, for instance.
[The answer does come after a short exhale, once the shock's worn off and her thought process' straightened back out.]
But weren't you supposedly in your room at night when the killer made their rounds? They would not have had the opportunity to steal from you without disturbing you.
I was, I worked on fabric before turning in - the kimono, if you must know. Alice, Kaoru, Susan, and Stiles should've all seen it by now.
[Resting one hand on her hip as she leans back a little.]
I have no idea. The culprit could've gotten in earlier during the day when I was out; I don't keep track of where I leave them inside my room. They shouldn't have time anyway, considering how much was done that night.
In other words, the skeleton key could be used to take a cigarette to plant the ash. I do find it difficult to believe that you could possibly be stupid enough to smoke while holding a dismembered limb against the electric fence.
I didn't examine that area myself, but perhaps Poland can elucidate further.
[She inhales, before bringing a hand to pinch the bridge of her nose beneath her glasses.
After a beat, again, once the shock's worn off. It doesn't take much to get her thoughts back together, at least.]
I smoke all around the mansion, so I've carried ashtrays and bowls with me everywhere to keep it in one place. If it's just ash, obtaining a sample like that is well doable. I certainly never paid attention to how much I've had in them.
...The ash also smells like burnt flesh, though, which wouldn't be possible without some residue from the body being involved. Simply taking already used ash wouldn't accomplished the same effect.
So like. I was at the chapel with Lithuania and Latvia because like, Belarus totally hung out there all the time burying people and doing. Whatever. I don't really go to the chapel that much after I got all accused of murdering um. Whatsherface. Blood mary or whoever. But Belarus wasn't in there, obviously. So I then I like stepped out and went to look around the fence and junk. Not because I was like scared or grossed out by body parts being everywhere or anything-- no way it was totally not like that at all! I just wanted to make sure I like was super throughout in my totally crucial investigation and whatever. And then I kinda saw something hanging out at like the base of the fence and I was like Oh my god! and then I was like What's that? So I went to go look and it was all I'M A LIMB! and I was all Ew. Except it was different from all the other limbs because it was totally all charred so I was like well that's really weird. And then I saw the little ash pile. But I didn't like sniff it or anything that's gross. Then I saw the wind kinda blowing some of it away so I was like I should totally bring this back to the house just incase it's like super important and I picked up as much as I could in my handkerchief-- can I get a new one by the way there's no way I'm using that for cookie transportation anymore. Oh but, before that I ran my handkerchief on the bars and didn't find any ash or burnt up flesh on the bars or whatever so I dunno if the fence was really responsible or not but maybe someone else has a better experiment.
Um... can I just say... if a killer was going to go to all the trouble to steal cigarettes to leave evidence at the scene, why only ash, that could easily be blown away? Why not the butt of the cigarette itself? It seems so obvious. But there was only ash.
[Kaoru is nodding along thoughtfully as Sonia talks.]
Ah, that is a good point... Still, they may have thought it would be too obvious if something so easily identifiable was carelessly left behind. And since ash is so quick to scatter, perhaps that is why Mr. Poland was able to find as much as he did. The culprit decided to burn an entire cigarette to ensure it would be noticed.
No one wants to believe anyone would be capable of doing something like this. It's unfortunate, but we're facing facts, one of them being that this case has to be solved.
[A brief shake of her head.]
I can understand the suspicion, and I wouldn't hold it against anyone. Knowing my temperament and my smoking tendencies, however, it would have been a very simple frame job to set up. [She's the heaviest smoker by far, and has never made secret of that fact.]
I suppose it is rather obvious. I'm sure that any culprit would do their best to hide any condemning evidence...
But at the same time, condemning evidence is what we really need... I'll think over it a bit. You don't seem like the kind of person to do something like this.

Just ash, though?

Anyone with... access to it? Um, why on Earth would anyone have access to your room?

Is there something scandalous going on between you and Miss Kaoru?! [NOOOOOOOOOO HEARTBREAK CITY]

Miss Aozaki and I do not speak often outside of the bar, Miss May. Additionally, I am not a suspect and therefore could not have framed her...

I prefer keeping to myself, May. I strike conversation when it's convenient, but I don't go out of my way to get close to anyone.

Latvia sorely needed that intervention two weeks back, but that's the only exception.

That would only be likely if the killer couldn't get their hands on a cigarette for whatever reason and chose to only plant ash instead, yes.
