This post will cover the weekend period from the end of trial Friday evening to early Sunday evening, when new incentives will be announced. No murders will take place over this time.

[the noise is missed, but Kaoru enters the room just in time to see the last few pages fluttering back shut.]

Ah— [...well, between Kanaya's expression and the sketchpad's current placement, it isn't too difficult to tell what's going on. Kaoru will politely go to pick it up for her.] Are you all right?

[speakveryclearly]

I struck space gold with you, [she laments with a depth of passion few others were allowed to hear. Though she feels gratitude for Kaoru's contribution, she doesn't even immediately move to accept the book back. Annie Leonhardt haunts the pages that hang open.]

Maybe this wasn't such a good stress relief idea after all.

[Kaoru doesn't seem particularly fussed to stand there and hold it for however long it takes Kanaya to take it back, at least. with a furrowed brow and a tone of sympathy:]

Is it distressing you? You could try writing instead, if you think that may help you.

I could... [Her lips slip uneasily to expose her teeth as she finally takes it back.]

I think I might be distressed no matter what I do, though.

It would seem that is the case for a good many people this week. ...Even catching the correct culprit is not fair reason to celebrate.

[Kaoru's head dips a little and the sketchpad is surveyed once more with a brief, curious sort of glance.] Are there no other time-consuming hobbies that you enjoy which might help take your mind off of the situation for a short while?

I don't know... every time I try to think of something, my mind circles back to the location. Isn't it the same for you?

[She looks down again.]

Don't you think of how little chance we have of receiving the incentives, let alone getting out of here?

...It is. I wish that was not the case, but it largely seems to be. [a sigh.]

That seems to be a common topic lately... The latter, I mean. This game is designed to keep us from searching for an escape.

There are even people preoccupied with how to punish players who won.

[Her finger traces over the back surface of the sketchpad.]

Do you know what they would have done to Annie in my world, those souls bent on justice? They would have taken out her right eye. It would have been poetic, with her murder method, and impaired her permanently in terms of extreme reflexes without any actual cruel incapacitating elements.

Probably sounds barbaric, to you.

[ACTUALLY since Kaoru comes from the 1860s...]

It sounds a reasonable punishment, though murder is usually punished by death in my own society. I do not find it particularly wise for people to spend time concerning themselves with Miss Leonhardt one way or another, though. To me, I believe that our escape should still be our focus.

What are we going to do about the fence?

That, I do not know. Digging under it has so far proven to be impossible. As for getting over it... Mr. Beat could test, I suppose. Does anyone else have the ability to fly?

[it seems a little unfair, asking Beat to fling himself at an electrified fence after he just had to go through the whole trial ordeal...]

He tested it a lot when we first got here, to no avail. Though it could have changed, he seemed to find it impossible to fly over.

Then it would be better not to subject him to such a thing a second time.

There has to be another way... If we can't go above or below the force field then the disabling of the electricity...

I could not understand much about electricity even after reading about it, I'm afraid... But if there is another way out, I will try my best to find it.

I'm only aware of the basics myself... still, there has to be a source somewhere.
