You must be pretty desperate for entertainment.

Feh! They require exercise, and it is good to keep their skills sharp. This is not mere amusement, but training.

[Oh what the hell. She sits and points somewhat randomly at a section of the apparatus.]

What's this part for?

Ah, that.

[So she's pointing to a particularly complicated part of the maze with a little rope.]

It is for strengthening spacial awareness and increasing capacity to make use of tools. He must come to understand the consequences of pulling the rope is to open the maze, and that this is the path he attempts to navigate. It is a difficult feat, when you know how their mind works.

Ah, they are more than capable.

[He'll pick up the hamster in his pocket, who is the largest of the hamsters, and hold him in his hand. He unfolds one of the hamster's front paws.]

You see, their front paws have developed to act as hands. This way they may hold their food as they chew it. But because of this, between their paws and their mouth, they are capable of manipulating objects more easily than other four-legged creatures.

So that's what evolution invents due to their diet consisting of such small objects. I see.
