We have those bloody numbers, plus we have this. Susan's point about pigment is probably right. So here's what we have!

[She'll write on the Theories board her thoughts as they talk.]

I think the comb has to be a brush. But how about the other stuff?

The third line is clearly canvas. A tin can and a vase. I think the first five are all indicating that what we're looking for is a painting.

Right, good idea. Okay, I'll update that.

If all else fails, of course, we can go about the house and check every painting. We do have three days. ...Two and a half.

Yeah. You'd think they wouldn't make it that easy. Safe behind the painting is the oldest cliche in the book. But whatever!

Don't forget, if this is the location of the safe, we still need to decipher the lock or the combination. And while I always preferred math to the arts, it seems as if it might be a bit more difficult.

Right. Let's narrow this down and then start looking, we need as much time to crack it as possible.

Somnolence means sleep, of course. Sleep, old, and... ruler? Perhaps it makes a word somehow like 'poor' and 'trait' did.

Yeah. Maybe it's a name? If it's a portrait, it's of somebody.

( Wow just talking about it makes him sleepy. )

Obviously we're looking for an old napkin.

Hm... a somnolent aged king... [ She abruptly shrugs and ignores the paper like it's the least important thing in the world to her. ] Beats me. Someone else can figure this out.

Somnolent means tired. Sleepy? It's a pun of something.

How do you even make a pun out of a sleepy, old king?

Ugh, making the special effects is more interesting than trying to figure out how they work. That's Techrat's job.

I don't know. Puns aren't really my thing.

Mine either. Maybe someone with a poor sense of humor should try solving it.

I think we're on the right track. An intentional scapegoat sounds like it'd be referring to a frame. So...some kind of painting, but we're not sure which yet.

God, I cannot believe this trial has devolved into us trying to figure out puns.

I know...this isn't the most dignified way to solve it. But canvas and frame, that works.

Destitute means poor, so it could be telling us to pour something.

Obviously we should be pouring acid into Mordswell's grave for having the worst excuse for humor known to mankind.

...can we just run around the place tearing off every portrait? I think that'd be the less painful option.
