As I'm sure you all know by now, there was a message in blood next to the Hostess. It seems to say 4+17 or 4t17.

[A slight straying of the eyes towards a few of the others.]

You're free to try the code on it if you wish, though I'm afraid I haven't managed to turn any numbers into words.

[Susan had her own theory.]

Has anyone tried reading it in a mirror? Maybe it's written backwards.

[ Is that a hint of facetiousness? From Rapture? Don't be sill— it is. ]

...Perhaps you ought to try it for yourself. You can manipulate it however you'd like.

[Strangely noncommittal.]

[ She takes a moment to regard Susan, before snatching the non-bloody written version to take a look. ]

Alright, I will. [ She takes a moment to stare at it closely, twisting it and turning it however suits her. Even pulling out her mirror compact to do what she's suggested, but nothing seems to really come to mind. She doesn't seem satisfied until her compact clasps shut and she pauses. Rapture looks at the message for a good fifteen seconds with her eyes narrowed. ] Wait a minute...

[ She furrows her eyebrows and turns to Susan. ] It's not a math problem, is it?

From a certain perspective, it doesn't appear to be so, no.

...But it's so incredibly... blatant that I'm hesitant to call this definitive evidence in any sense. We would be acting far too hastily if we went by this alone.

Either someone's incredibly unlucky or the Hostess spent her time practicing making it dangerously close just in case she was planning this would happen.

Still... [ She regards the paper again, raising her eyebrows a bit. ] We have been waiting for a case where the victim writes the murderers name and, if this doesn't mean anything math-wise, we just might end up being the lucky ones.

A three day murder trial distilled down to 'she wrote it as her dying action'. Perhaps the irony is so strong that they'd actually accept it.

[Susan will slowly revolve the paper around for a moment before turning it back to its number orientation.]

We do have three days. Let's open this 'vault' and see what comes of it. It isn't as if there's anything to lose.

You never know, maybe they really want us to end this. It would make for a pretty boring performance though... not even the audience would be impressed.

I'm with you on that one. Think of all the mysteries that would be solved if we opened it or what we'll find in it when we do. It just may have everything we need to figure this whole place out... and then some! Like something to grant the winners as a last parting gift.

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-11-22 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The only parting gift I need is the gift of parting. ...From this place, I mean.

Shall we focus on finding the vault and put this aside for the moment, then? Annie seems to think the recipe is relevant - I don't doubt she's correct. The entire thing is meant to be solved....

I think we should keep it in mind, at least. It has some sort of meaning wether it's a name or a number, but like all other clues we've come across it might not mean much until later anyway. The safe is all we have to go on for now. If we figure where it is and how to open it, it bound to lead us exactly where we need to go to win this game.

Mordswell has a lot to hide apparently and I'm sure plenty of things will show up along the way now that we have more access.

...Or, of course, it may be as transparent as it appears to be.

We need to 'prove beyond a doubt' who the Mastermind is, though. Whether or not that means collecting as much evidence as we can or whether that means there really will be something exposing the truth, we need to keep searching.

I'm inclined to think the entire diary is just a work of fiction, honestly. The bloodstains are a little too conveniently placed.

Stiles suggests that it's a reference to my age, if that helps elucidate anything.

[Susan knows very well what Marlow is saying.]

I should probably point out how ridiculous it would be to hide it behind a bookcase as opposed to just wiping it off the wall.

[Lithuania wants to go home.]

Not that I'm assured of your innocence, but in mysteries, dying messages never mean what they look like they mean.

No doubt it's a reference to lithium, by which I mean the element, and we're lookign for someone with a connection to the number 3.
vytis: (oh tell me why)

[personal profile] vytis 2013-11-22 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's a reference to Miss Nevermind's horse and we need to check the stables.

[Lithuania doesn't know if he's being serious or not here.]
inthebones: (Skeptical)

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-11-22 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
There are precious few words that start with 'L-I-T-H', it's true. But Gundam would probably have noticed anything awry about the stables - he's been caring for Lithium, hasn't he?
vytis: (oh tell me why)

[personal profile] vytis 2013-11-22 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm sure he'd have noticed something... [Technically even Lithuania's name actually starts with L-I-E-T, but that doesn't really count here.]

What if it's the key to the safe? LITH would be 2908 according to the code Alice thinks it is.
inthebones: (Default)

[personal profile] inthebones 2013-11-22 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The Hostess's dying action was to write the key to a safe we didn't know about yet in blood? That's rather generous of her.

We should go ahead and try it, though.
