I suppose it's not completely beyond the realm of possibility. If he was being attacked immediately prior, though, then Miss May should have seen someone else leaving the chapel. There's only one exit as far as I'm aware--though considering the existence of secret passages, I suppose we can't leave that possibility out.
We will come to a point where he cannot deny it. I... won't allow for anything else.
May, I highly doubt. Even if she claims to have attacked in self-defense, there's still a thirty minute time gap in which she was unconscious for and she only made one wound. As well as that, a kunai is a very small weapon and I don't think she could kill with it alone unless her aim was pinpoint accurate.

...May is a sort of warrior princess, you know? Who is to say that her aim is not accurate? Even myself, with my limited military training... I could fire an arrow accurately if I needed to.

Maybe we should check the chapel for any existence of passages then. Even if there are some, there wouldn't be many places to hide them when the chapel isn't connected to any building. This rules out the possibility of underground tunnels, for now. Though personally, I don't think the chapel has any. It's much simpler to just say that the killer left the same way they came and they couldn't lock the chapel from the outside.
The truth might be obscured because there's something else he's hiding. Asking him isn't going to do much if he can't make sense of his own story.

It couldn't hurt. I believe Miss May also claims to have called Beat's name, though, so if he were blind he would also have to have had his hearing impaired as well--unless Miss May is lying. If someone did attack him beforehand and leave, without secret passages, we need to explain how Miss May didn't see them.

True, but at the same time she's also much smaller than you and was in a state of panic - she said to have retaliated without thought, like a jerk reaction, so it could be said her aim wasn't perfect when she wasn't focusing on it. Not to mention being flung against a wall, her aim could have been put off by injuries to her back.
