I think I agree with Miss Nevermind. As long as most people didn't know it existed at all keeping it secret was reasonable, but if everyone knows where it is and just not how to get into it, we'll always be wondering if someone found it. It could also be used by a culprit to try to obscure if they had the secret passageway map or not.
