I dunno. Who gets a skeleton key and thinks 'Hey, let's plant this on the dead guy'?

If it could slip, that'd be way too dangerous. The killer couldn't risk even the smallest chance of the doors closing before they could get out. Could you really pry an elevator door open with a katana though?
