WEEK 3 - TRIAL

week three trial

[At 9 AM precisely, the old grandfather clock chimes once again, and the doors to the drawing room are opened. They will remain open until everyone has come inside, after which they will shut behind them. It is not possible to leave on your own, although perhaps if you have a specific purpose the hostess will allow you to go, as long as you are accompanied by a partner.

The room is set up comfortably, with several tables by the fireplace set out to assist with the trial. The Hostess will also remain in a seat near the fireplace, next to the scales on the mantle. At lunch, the doors will open to bring in a large meal on an automatically rolling buffet, and at 3 PM, tea and finger sandwiches will be served. You'll be able to enjoy the trial in comfort, of course, but the information cards set out on tables will not allow you to forget your true purpose here.

At 7 PM, the trial will adjourn for the day. Players will be escorted by the Hostess to the ballroom, where dinner and wine will be served until 10 PM, at which point players will be required to return to their wings in groups with their wingmates and will be locked in their bedrooms until 8:30 AM the following morning.]

[...She supposes there's a point there, actually.]

The theory of Dave being overcome by his intended victim - either Mr. Altman or Miss Reiko - doesn't seem to hold much water, no. I don't know what a physicist would do against a sword coming his way, and Miss Reiko herself has testified that her hair wouldn't be able to defend herself against a sword.

It does seem more probable that our victim is being framed of ill intention.

When would the keys have been swapped, though? After he was stabbed and still suspended in midair?

Yeah, but they're not us. [ That is to imply they are far smarter and more cunning that the general populace consisting of their housemates. ]

Depending on the time it happened, either way could be possible, though through the ballroom sounds like the easiest. Should we split up and check out the different routes then? It'd give us more time to report our findings and return to the trial.

Think about the patterns of the past two cases: Bernkastel was meticulous, but her whole personality was a façade. Annie was in the military, which also counts for meticulousness. She may have not been wearing a mask, but people's first suspicion isn't going to be a teenage girl, no matter how she's been raised. You said it yourself, you would have voted for Ukraine regardless because of Annie's age.

Michael Altman is too dazed and confused, he's disorganized. Not to say murderers can't be disorganized, but there's no way he could plan something like this, even with the role of a scientist. It says on Reiko Aya's card that she's good at disguising herself... for all we know, it could all be an act! Just like Bernkastel.

Maybe after she knocked him unconscious she threw his keys somewhere in his room and already placed the skeleton key in his pocket. Then dragged him to the kitchen, stabbed him at a distance that would get the least amount of blood on her, and dropped him down the shaft. It says she took a shower at 8, how do we know she didn't wash off the blood from her hair then?

[Susan isn't quite sure if she wants to be put in the same group as Rapture, but she will accept the implication with a nod. Certainly, if it were up to her, she would personally inspect every room in the house on her own.]

Given that neither of us are suspects, I think we can trust each other to be forthcoming with anything we find.

[Rapture had never shown any sign of wanting to aid the murderer in the past, at any rate.]

Do you want the kitchen or the dining room?

Of course.

[ She presses her lips into a smile. She means it... unless they find money, but she highly doubts that is going to be the case. There's really no gain for her here except popularity status. Who needs immunity? ]

I don't mind taking the dining room. It's easier to find if something has gone amiss there.

We'll meet back in Ruby Wing, then.

[Susan will nod and step briskly off in the direction of the kitchen. It was true that it was a bit more... haphazard but perhaps the murderer would count on that to conceal any signs that something had gone awry.

She searches for more bloodstains like the one on Dave's desk and rifles through the stock of cooking utensils and cooking supplies. She even removes each knife one by one, as well as glancing in the ice box and the oven - perhaps for dirtied clothing stuffed inside.]

Haven't people been hypothesizing that it was murder in self defense?

What if... what if he was waiting in one of those rooms to catch someone off guard, drag them in and then murder them? Considering the items on his person he would have been targeting a deadweight player...

Which would make Mr. Altman in the Sapphire wing the only viable option

[If there was a murder in Ukraine's room so help him]

B-but maybe the key was planted on his person to get rid of evidence... I'm not sure. It feels like there's something big we're overlooking...

It doesn't explain the blood in his room either. I think... it's more likely considering other rooms may have been opened is overcomplicating it. Though we need to check anyway; we have time.
balzams: (Thoughtful ● Intrigued)

[personal profile] balzams 2013-10-11 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
That is true... But it was only a little, wasn't it? If there was a lot of blood it would have been obvious or obviously cleaned. They did say it was very messy didn't they?

It still might be worth checking though... Even if no murder occurred the culprit might have tried to dispose of evidence in there thinking no one would look.

[He shows her the card from last week: "It's Beat's fault he and his sister died" is clearly visible at the top. The details are smaller, underneath the title - it seems he got into a fight with their parents and ran away from home. Rhyme, having followed him, was caught in front of a speeding car. He tried to dive in front to save her, but it ended up killing them both.

Beat stays silent for as long as she's reading it, not sure what to say. He didn't really want Yuzu to know that his sister was dead.]

I think the Sapphire wing would be best to check first. It has the most empty rooms and one of the dead weight players.
