[You may want to stop in the parlor a bit, as the scene in there is pretty disturbing.

The entire room smells like soot and smoke, although there is no fire going in the fireplace. In the center of the room, on the floor, a large pentagram has been drawn in ink. Candlesticks are on either side of the circle, still lit but burnt down. In the center in an ornate jewelry box with its lid left open.]

[Okay, yeah, forget the secret passage for now. Lithuania approaches the pentagram uncertainly. Is the ink dry or fresh? And is there anything in that jewelry box?]

[The ink is dry.

The jewelry box only has one thing in it: Clyde's pomade.]

[vytis]

[Oh alright that's completely reasonable NO IT'S NOT WHAT THE HELL IS THIS. Lithuania will pause, pull out his notebook, and draw this ridiculous scene before stepping into the circle and looking at the pomade more closely. It's not covered in blood or anything is it...?]

[Fortunately there is no blood.]

[At least there's that. Lithuania will examine the candles next. How big are they at this point? Is there a lot of melted wax?]

[There is a lot of melted wax, yes. The candles seem to have been burning for hours.]

[vytis]

[It's really difficult to think about this practically when he feels like he's walked in on some surreptitious dark ritual. But okay, are there any candles in the parlor that haven't been used?]

[No, they've all been taken down from the mantle and set up here.]

[vytis]

[Lithuania will take a brief trip into the dining room to grab a candle from there and return. Do they look roughly the same as the ones in here or are they obviously different?]

[No, those seem different, or at least have slimmer holders.]

[vytis]

[So much for that plan, unless Lithuania wants to start doing equations based on comparative widths and candle wax types. Which he doesn't, by the way.

He'll check the fireplace ashes and look up the chimney just in case this is all a really dramatic way to hide that the fireplace was used at some point.]

[It actually does seem the fireplace was used at some time. There are still a few dying embers towards the back, and a few scraps or blackened pieces of something that was burned.]

[Lithuania will fish a piece of whatever it is out with one of the fireplace tools. Ideally tongs, if there are some, but he'll make do with whatever's available.]

[The object looks like the cover and binding of a book, although it has been blackened beyond all recognition.]

[vytis]

[Lithuania will get as many pieces as he can out, then, before carefully collecting them to take to the trial. He'll grab the jewelry box and pomade, too, so it doesn't disappear later or something, and blow out the candles so they don't completely melt.

This trial is going to be really weird.]

[The jewelry box closes easily, and the latch catches when it closes. On the top, it has a pretty floral design.]
