murder manor week zero

saturday

[Saturday begins much like Friday, with no further answers provided, and no means of escape. However, at 3 PM on Saturday, the old grandfather clock in the foyer begins to chime. From the foyer, the ballroom doors stand open, and the room is bright with sunshine. Soft, dreamy music plays from a radio inside.

Inside the ballroom, what seems to be a magnificent party is laid out. There is a buffet table laden with finger foods - vegetables and dips, finger sandwiches, pastries, fruit, and cheeses. Next to the table are glasses filled with wine, champagne, or juice. Most of the room is empty, with room to stand and talk, although towards the windows looking out on the courtyard are six tables with five place settings each, set for a larger meal.

And then there's a seventh table, at the back of the room, on which are thirty small notebooks. Inside, the notebooks appear to be some sort of album, with each page containing a picture of and information about your fellow guests.

After everyone has filed in, the doors shut and lock behind the final guest; the doors to the courtyard close as well. You'll have some time to talk amongst yourself, for it will be another hour of dining before anyone else appears]

This is an open mingle log for the welcome feast. Please tag one another. There will be NPC interaction in the post later in the day.

[ She's sipping her glass of red wine, reading through the information cards as a means to find a way to play yet another one of her little games. ]

30 languages, vampire strength, robots? [ She laughs to herself. Her own entry just makes her laugh even harder — despite the truth of it all. This just seems like some fun little act to her or something out of a fantasy novel she's previously enjoyed. ] Who would honestly believe any of this?
miraculous: (A)

[personal profile] miraculous 2013-09-21 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it really so difficult to believe?

[Bernkastel is holding a notebook herself, having snatched it up off the table earlier.]

[ Rapture arches a perfectly manicured eyebrow, her make-up far less intense from the day before. ]

You're not serious, right? If we were brought to this mansion for a reason, why would whoever brought us here give away all of this information from the start if it wasn't fake in the first place?
miraculous: (those who call me AVATAR)

[personal profile] miraculous 2013-09-21 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Our hosts haven't been gracious enough to present themselves properly as of yet, but it's clear enough making this information public is part of their plans, yes?

[Or why else would it be presented to them like this?]
throe: (mater suspiria vision)

[personal profile] throe 2013-09-21 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
If it is, it's a pretty lame plan. Are we really supposed to believe the Grand Duchess Anastasia is actually walking amongst us? Or that people named after countries are a thousand years old?

If the information is real, what would be the point of putting it all out there other than to cause suspicion?
miraculous: (MIRACLE)

[personal profile] miraculous 2013-09-21 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you know what the plan is? There are thirty people in this notebook, and thirty notebooks. One for each listed individual. There are any number of reasons someone might want everyone to have this information.
throe: (oOoOO)

[personal profile] throe 2013-09-21 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Rapture doesn't respond for a moment as if she is contemplating. She exudes calmness, giving the woman a gentle smile. ]

It's easy to fear the unknown when you don't know what's happening, but panicking only makes it worse. If there is a reason — real information or not — then there's no need to be scared.

The least we can do is figure out our own plan.
miraculous: (is this the PINNACLE)

[personal profile] miraculous 2013-09-21 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, information like this could have its uses. [Bernkastel takes a sip of wine, having pulled it off of one of the tables.] We've been here for a day and haven't heard anything. Our hosts are being quite rude, don't you think? And yet this place has been prepared for us today.

Perhaps we'll see the plans of whoever called us here soon as well.

[personal profile] throe 2013-09-21 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She places her free hand in the crook of her elbow. ]

I figure it's bound to be some grand entrance to put the spotlight on them. They're probably just getting us "acquainted" with this information so they can steal the show as some publicity stunt after we've all finished arguing about it. Why else would anyone make a mansion look like it's from the 1920s?
miraculous: (to live through a MIRACLE)

[personal profile] miraculous 2013-09-21 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a popular era--its conventions have a certain charm to some. [Old-fashioned, but not too far, popular fashion, no cell phones, easy to cut off communication believably...] If our hosts have given us information on each other already, perhaps it would be more entertaining to speculate about them.

Well sure, I mean with the first commercial radio station being created and Bing Crosby's first album and all, it's pretty neat. I think I'd much rather stick with the 80's instead.

I guess if someone really want to be noticed then they'll go out of their way to kidnap a bunch of people just to promote their new album.

Who wouldn't? [Hi there, "sadism without remorse". Just "vampire strength" over here, NBD.] You're a psychic, none of this is that far-fetched by comparison.

[Actually, wait a second, flipping through her album and--] Huh, "psychic" isn't on here... what a strange omission.

[personal profile] throe 2013-09-21 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
See what I mean? They don't even have that or my important ancestry down, not to mention my extensive knowledge about coventry and quartz. [ Rapture tosses her own book somewhere behind her, obviously bored with its contents. ] Not even a lick of 'speaks a handful of German.'

The point is, why should we act like this is full truth when it's obviously omitting the important parts. Psychics are real, personified countries aren't. Someone's obviously trying to play with us.

[ She switches to German. It's not flawless, only because she managed to get by before she met Minx, but it's still fairly solid. ]

If you look up at the ceiling, you can see the word gullible written on it.

[ Sonia looks up. She is a classic Disney princess. But she does respond in German. ]

I don't see it!

[ Rapture stares at her incredulously for a moment, almost not recognizing the language switch. She smirks and switches back to English. A princess who speaks 30 languages... ]

Oh, only certain people with... certain powers can, but enough about that. I've never heard of Novoselic before... [ She smiles sweetly, obviously interested. ] What continent is it on?
teenspirit: (drain you)

[personal profile] teenspirit 2013-09-23 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Trying to squint at the ceiling still. ]

Ah? Really? I am not surprised, sadly... So many do not know of us! Liechtenstein feels the same way, I am sure... We are between Germany and the Netherlands.

[personal profile] throe 2013-09-23 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
What? That doesn't make any sense... unless you mean Belgium, but I've never heard to it referred as that.

I'm with you on that one, darlin'. If that's true, I have some major self-evaluation to work out, since apparently that would make the world a hell of a lot more colorful.

[ because yeah, he looked through the information and didn't even understand what half of what people's skills meant... Though it's not to say that he won't take it somewhat seriously until it's proven that it's untrue. It'd be unfortunate to underestimate someone here, especially when skills include things like sadism without remorse. ]

[ She places her hands on her hips, looking down at him. People being shorter than her doesn't require much notice. She's always on stage, so she always sees people shorter than her. ]

Maybe it should be treated like a costume party where we all have our roles to play. It would add a lot to the mystery of the whole thing, wouldn't you think? Maybe even some incentive...

coca_cola: (lord I'm standing at the crossroad)

[personal profile] coca_cola 2013-09-23 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He laughs and shrugs lightly, since that would be an interesting twist, wouldn't it? ]

Heh, maybe so. Not my kind of party, but that's the kind of eccentricity I'd expect from some rich old man that owns a place like this. When you have that much money, you got a lot of time to come up with weird hobbies.
throe: (crim3s)

[personal profile] throe 2013-09-23 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's better than the mundane parties most people throw. Why have a lame, regular birthday party when you can celebrate full moons or Friday the 13th?

There's no way half these facts could even be right anyway, they didn't even bother to mention my psychic abilities.
coca_cola: (where you bury my body)

[personal profile] coca_cola 2013-09-23 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ While the prospect of what makes a party interesting is something he'd happily discuss, that tidbit is also rather interesting. He raises an eyebrow. ]

...Psychic abilities? How so?

I come from a long line of Romani fortune tellers, so I have the ability to tell the future, as well as read auras and speak to those long gone from beyond the realm.

I get only small glimpses of the future though or else I wouldn't be here like everyone else if I knew what was going to happen.
