Monday: Kitchen | 9:30 am

[Guess who slept napped missed the day of the trial entirely? Not that she would have participated in it. For a change, Annie is making breakfast for the first time downstairs since the second week.

Hair disheveled and cardigan unbuttoned, she doesn't look very awake.]

[Wow.............. she made it... Kanaya had been developing a legitimate concern that Annie was slowly decomposing inside her respiteblock like Sharon had in the smoking room. She ends up making a cautious, awkward approach, and after standing nearby a while says without preamble:]

Aluminum Siren. She was the one this week. The blue-haired pop star.

[While Annie doesn't acknowledge Kanaya when she first steps in, her hand does stiffen on the pan handle. She's enjoyed Siren's sharp honesty. She was one of the few to approach her after the trial.

And she was a murderer. Perhaps sinner do attract sinners after all.]

Then no innocents died this time. [she moves the pan with the bubbling eggs away from the fire briefly.]

Except for Dave. [Kanaya feels obligated to just put that out there. She feels a little unironically aggravated that they lost such a beautiful artistic soul.]

But that aspect of the equation is the same every time.

It was his bad fate. [she adds sausages after a moment of contemplation.] It's our bad fate how we've all ended up here.

True. None of us really have that much of a chance. Just less poor timing.

[She stares at the meat. Cooked and processed, it holds little appeal to her brand of predation]

[She can understand fatalism here, if nothing else.]

One day someone will be able to defend themselves when they're attacked. Maybe the tides will just change then.

Self-defense is listed as a crime in the rules, though.

[hollowheart]

I wonder why no one's tried that yet, all the same.

[speakveryclearly]

It is kind of strange, and not entirely explained by the choice of targets, especially since no premeditated killer has ever even nullified the powers of their victim yet.

Then again, that would be much harder to cover up effectively and by extension make for a much less interesting trial, which the producers seem to prioritize with these lavish two-day affairs.

[roadroller]

[Rin's staying close. Her laptop is held tightly to her chest - she's obviously worrying about the rankings.]

[Does Rin even need food? Annie starts slicing the bread for her portion as well, just in case.] You remind me of someone, frowning like that.

[roadroller]

[Need, no. But she can eat, and she likes it - she'll nod gratefully at getting it. For now, she looks over at her.]

Really... who? ♪

[hollowheart]

Some boy on my team. He always gets serious and tragic when he's worried.

You're not the only one on that list.

[roadroller]

I'm just not used to being disliked. They must not be airing this show in Japan. ♪

[hollowheart]

Fear is a smart instinct to have. It keeps you on your toes.

But a frown doesn't suit you. You must have those who like you elsewhere.

[roadroller]

It'd be stupid not to be afraid. Just cause I'm a robot, it really seems I'm at the bottom of their stupid little moral pecking order. You know, Susan tried to volunteer me as a test dummy at the trial yesterday. Me, right along with the corpses. It wasn't easy to keep smiling through that... I don't think they'll even miss me if I get killed...

I'm sorry. I'll try to be more cheerful soon. ♪

[hollowheart]

[The knife goes through the bread a bit harder, ripping the tufts of stuffing inside. Another reason to make it to the trials.]

I would miss you.

[roadroller]

[Rin musters a smile for that at least.]

Thanks. I'm glad I made friends with you.

[Even she doesn't want to linger on the bad things for too long. Now that she got that off her chest, she finally has a seat and puts her laptop down.]

Ehe. Maybe later we can play a computer game! It's the most fun thing I have apart from music programs. ♪

[He's walking into the kitchen to make himself a snack for later when he sees her there.]

...well, this is familiar.

You can use the stove after I'm done. [Hungry and cranky.]

Should I wait a couple of hours, or did you figure out how to use it on your own now? [Also hungry and cranky - although for him, sarcasm is basically the default setting.]

[It's okay, Stiles. She rooms with the Military Police squad. She's got this.] Do you not smell the food cooking already? [Sausages and eggs. Again.]

In this mansion? I'm trying to develop the ability to filter oxygen out from the atmosphere without ever having to breathe in. After I'm done with that, I'm gonna work on photosynthesising myself.

Wouldn't you need to go outside for that to happen [what is irony]
